NASSCOM Outlines Plan To Protect Privacy

********************************************************
Dear Friends,

NASSCOM, India's software industry lobby, has outlined a plan for
stricter privacy protection laws it hopes will be in place by
year-end.

The strategy calls for more self-regulation within companies,
greater education and awareness of security concerns, and higher
standards for encrypting sensitive information.

Compliance with international standards is also part of the agenda.
"We want to drive change and bring best practice to India and to
the market as a whole," said S Ramadorai, who took over as rotating
chairman of NASSCOM last month.

But Ramadorai, also chief executive of Tata Consultancy Services,
the largest Indian outsourcing company by revenue, added: "This is
not just about compliance - there is also an opportunity for better
systems."

Although India already has an information technology privacy act,
there is no industry-wide system for checking employee backgrounds.
About 350,000 Indians work in bpo, handling credit card and bank
account information, as well as managing insurance and medical
records and other data.

5) Transcend President & COO steps down

Alex Munoz executive vice president of operations starting June 7.

financial officer. Transcend Services' profit dropped in the first

6) Guthrie Clinic to outsource medical transcription work

The Guthrie Clinic will be outsourcing more of its medical
transcription work in the coming weeks, according to Clinic
Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Paul Chacona.
"In the past, what we've had is the majority -- if not all -- of
the transcription work being on site by our own specific
employees," he said. "But over the last several years, it has
become increasingly difficult to be able to keep up with the work."

It is not a core service of a health care facility to do typing,
Chacona said -- the core service is to provide health care. "What
I'm faced with as part of Guthrie, is it was taking us anywhere
from five to 15 days to turn the amount of dictation around into
the transcribed work," he said. "It was taking us that long and
costing us 30 percent more than what it is costing to do it on an
outsourcing basis."
