Subject: Copyright Laws
Dear Dr. Chatterjee & MTIDers,
I am Varun K. and I had been in the field of medical transcription
for over four years. I have visited a lot and lot of medical
transcription companies and also worked in lot of companies. There
is one thing common in almost all Medical Transcription Companies
(Except Heartland and Healthscribe), and that is all these
companies work using PHOTOCOPIES/XEROXED books.
Is this not a violation of all national and international copyright
laws? Why is this unchecked? What if Stedmans sues all these
companies (for the simple reason that they lose millions every
year)?
Awaiting for a reply as early as possible.
Yours truly,
K. Varun
[MODERATOR COMMENT]
Dear Varun and all,
<Is this not a violation of all national and international
copyright laws?>
Yes, it is.
<Why is this unchecked?>
Who is going it do it? If the publisher or aggrieved people like
you are ready to pick up my tabs, I volunteer:)
<What if Stedmans sues all these companies>
The company who indulges in such nefarious activities would be
legally responsible and punishable, neither me nor you.

Amit C.

Subject: Need Help!!!
Dear Maj Chatterjee & MTIDers,
I, Dr. Junaid Riaz Al Hassan, have signed a contract with AMA
Trans-Am Medical transcription firm in the state of Florida. I
would like to know whether this firm is a fraud or not because it
is not interested in giving me LIVE work even though I have passed
all their conditions for LIVE work.
I need your help in this and if it turns out to be a fraud then I
want you to warn every person who reads your esteemed newsletter
about this firm.
Kindly waiting for your reply as soon as possible.
Dr. Junaid Riaz Al Hassan, B.D.S., B.H.M.S.,
[MODERATOR COMMENT]
Dear Junaid,
Since I have seen this company use the same modus operandi
since 1999, with US MTs as well, I suggest conferring on them the
title of "Masters of the Game." Their methodology is time tested -
they will offer you a test which you pass and thereafter have to
give them a couple of hundred USD for hardware(footpedal), software
(footpedal driver) and initial "mentoring." You are supposed to
start getting live work as soon as your error rates is less than
one error per page. The catch is, I have yet to hear from an MT who
has achieved these "standards" and gone on to do live work - or for
that matter got paid, or received a refund.
Has this methodology changed now? I am talking from memory and
could be slightly off on their present methods.:)
Fraud?? I am weak on legal parlance, so I am not sure if that would
be the correct terminology applicable here. Do a Google search and
you will find the BBs loaded with info on AMA Tran-scam.

Amit C.

Subject: Another Company to be beware of..
Dear Amit & MTIDers,
I wanted to point out another 'fraud' company. This is a company
called Digitizer and the people involved are Sergey (US based),
Asad (Pune based). They have 2-3 vendors in Pune. We were also a
vendor of theirs based in Delhi. We were not doing much work with
them because of (1) Not very attractive pricing (2) Their
non-willingness to sign a contract.
We worked with them for 8 months, with the plan that we'll increase
work if pricing improves, as contracts are formalized. In the
meantime we got 2 payments from them. Post that, all other payments
(6 months) have still not come and they have always cited some
reasons or other for non-payment (the latest one being that our
quality for one of their accounts transcribed 4 months ago wasn't
good!)
Anyway we've no hope of getting money from them. But we just wanted
to share this with you all so that if you have a list of such
companies, you can add them, so that other vendors don't run into
such issues.
Regards,
Deepak Kapoor

Subject: Gregory Wells
Dear Amit:
I used to provide the file census to Mr. Greg and get paid at $0.03
per line. Still I have attached a rough sketch on the due amounts
which totals to $2376. I have no records on the invoices and
payments.
I had a contract with Mr. Gregory Wells, but that was signed by
only us and not from him. Still if you need those contracts, please
let me know.

Dear MTIDers,
I am quoting a mail I received regarding the above - it should be
food for thought, for those who persist:
---------------------------------
"The head count continues to rise.
I don't know which I find more appalling -- Professional Medical
Transcription's ongoing fraud or someone who does business for 3
cpl and doesn't keep track of payments or invoices! I suppose with
all the higher level services in India "in the loop" (so to speak),
this is what PMT is reduced to?"

Subject: Beware of MT companies in Pune
Dear MTIDers,
I am an MT from Agra. Some of the companies in Pune are luring
people from other states for money and accommodation. I was also
lured by such company in Pune. Please beware of such companies.
At the start, they are promising to pay 8000 or more but after that
as usual they will show you your accuracy. Like me some other
people from Jaipur, Calcutta, Delhi and even Bangalore were cheated
by these companies. For accommodation, they are promising
luxurious flats, but when actually we get the flats, there is no
water, as well as electricity problems. So friends please beware of
these companies. My expected salary was around 9500 Rs, and they
promised to pay me after one month, but after that they were not
interested to even talk to me.
Regards,
Jay

Subject: Want to know about the exact incentive what MT should get
Dear Amit & MTIDers,
I have been working in a company of well repute in Pune as a MT for
last two years that is paying me Rs 8500 for 500 lines per day and
above 500 lines, then per line they are paying me 60 paise per
line. Are these incentives just?

Subject: USINPAC organizes first-ever India Caucus Day
Dear Dr. Chatterjee & MTIDers,
The US India Political Action Committee (USINPAC) strongly urged
the 143 members of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian
Americans, the largest Caucus in the House, to proactively engage
with the Indian American community in resolving its concerns.
USINPAC, continuing with its assertive outreach and articulation of
the issues facing the Indian American community, shared its
objectives and petitioned lawmakers on behalf of the community.
These objectives covered business, national and international
security issues.
The future role of the Caucus, issues facing the community, and
India's role on the global stage featured in these discussions.
Rep. Ed Royce, speaking unequivocally, stated, "India is an
emerging superpower, and a key ally of the US in the fight against
terrorism." Rep. Joe Wilson told USINPAC that he would urge the
Congress to build strong defense ties with India, adding that the
past divisions due to the Cold War were long over and that the time
was ripe to enhance strategic and defense cooperation with India.
Adil Zanulbhai, Director, McKinsey and Co., and a USINPAC delegate,
expressed concerns about the recently passed New Jersey law that
bans state government IT outsourcing to offshore companies. Rep.
Crowley expressed his grave disappointment with the passage of the
law, and strongly urged members of the community to actively
petition their elected officials and members of the India Caucus to
stop such laws from being enacted.
USINPAC delegates also urged lawmakers to honor the memory of Dr.
Kalpana Chawla, the Indian American astronaut who was killed along
with her colleagues in the Space Shuttle Columbia accident.
