Subject: Scribe.com
Dear Amit,
Do you have a program where you can black list US companies that
fail to pay Indian companies for work done? If so, please let me
know. Our company in India, Chinar Software Exports, is a member of
MTIndia.
We did work for Scribe.com in 2001 and they have failed to pay us
an outstanding balance of approximately $3,000 despite repeated
reminders. We thought we had excellent relationship with them.
However, they just tricked all vendors by reorganizing and offering
only 9c to a $1...which we refused. They sold their company to new
investors and essentially duped the vendors into believing they
were bankrupt. They have done it once and they will do it again.
Mr. Rama Jager their Chairman and Mr. Dan Miers their VP Business
Development are people behind this scam. Just warn other vendors
about working with them.

Subject: Fraud
Dear Amit & MTIDers,
I am writing to you guys just to make you aware of a US company
which is fraud.
This company is named Jobasik and it has its presence on the Net
in the name of Jobasik.com
It is owned/managed by one Bonnie Chaplin.
We had been working for this company since August 26, 2002. They
had been postponing our payments time and again on one pretext or
the other. Finally, they stopped sending us work from November 21,
2002. Since then, we have been constantly trying to get in touch
with them. But they simply do not respond to our emails. We do not
have their contact numbers.
Our outstanding dues are around 1.25 lakh INR.
If anyone of you have their contact numbers or if anyone are in
touch with them, do let us know and also be cautious.
Thanks and regards,
Vivek Singh

[MODERATOR COMMENT]
Dear Dijjotam/Vivek,
We have been using our ezines/forums to blacklist unscrupulous US
MTSOs until now. However, considering that this phenomena is
reaching endemic proportions, and also it is the same group of
people who keep on changing business names, we will make this a
permanent feature at MTIndia.org
It is of grave concern that mature and established companies like
Chinar, Seyyone and Medsoft, with incorporated establishments in
the US are unable to deal with such scamsters. They problem as it
appears, is that the US principals siphon off the money, declare
the company bankrupt, and start operating under a new business
name.
One solution I can suggest is using the services of a company
called PRN Funding. The other option, is for us to create a group
fund and employ a national collection agency in the US on a
permanent basis.
I would welcome your comments.

Subject: Questions about New Jersey BPO bill
Dear Dr. Chatterjee,
I am working for a medical transcription company as an quality
manager. I must thank you for your mails and must admit that your
mails are of immense use in terms of giving an indepth insight into
the industries current trends and also keeps me updated with the
latest happenings.
There has always been an air of fear and sceptism about the Medical
transcription industry in India being exposed to risk of being
stopped altogether at any point if the US congress passes a rule or
bill against this.
I believe that you are aware of the new BPO bill that the state of
New Jersey has passed. I believe it stands a fair chance that it
could turn into a law. Our fears are if this could affect the
Medical Transcription and other US health care related jobs in
India like medical records maintainence and medical coding and
billing jobs.
We would be very greatful if you could throw some light on this
issue and clear all those questions ringing in our minds.
I thank you for your time and effort in this regard
With regards
Vaithilingam Venkatesh

[MODERATOR COMMENT]
Dear Vaithi,
The New Jersey Senate has approved a bill to ban companies that
take government contracts to move their call centres abroad for
cheap labor. The Bill has yet to go the Legislative Assembly to
become a law.
However, the total government business from the US is about two
percent to three percent and the Bill has been approved in one
state only.
Kiran Karnik, President, Nasscom says, "This Bill in particular is
not going to impact Indian BPO industry in any way. But we also
cannot afford to sit back and relax. We have to act and do it in a
diplomatic manner since there is an emotional issue involved."
"Even then, if the outcome is not favorable, we shall approach the
WTO, although we would prefer not to do that," added Karnik.
Banning outsourcing would be a clear violation of WTO principles,
which stands for free movement of goods and services in order to
have the best economic benefit.
We cannot expect the US industry to come out in the open to
advocate outsourcing, although it is a matter of grave concern for
American companies as their bottom line is directly affected. I
personally believe that the value offshore companies deliver to the
US industry will determine our survival or otherwise, and not acts
of legislation.

Amit C.

Subject: Let us call a spade a spade...
Hi MTIDers!
Well, it is said you can fool all the people some of the time, some
of the people all the time, but not all of the people all of the
time!
I do not understand why Vishal Babu has found it uncomfortable to
accept the facts exposed by Amit.
Maybe if Vishal's idea is to please someone, I am sorry it is too
late.
There is panic in the ranks of that company talked about, so much
so that the so called production manager is seeking out jobs in
other companies but the reality is that he does not qualify to be
considered even as a basic medical transcriptionist.
Did somebody speak of quality? It speaks for itself.

Subject: US India Political Action Committee (USINPAC)
Dear Friends:
This is Pradeep Bhatia writing from the San Francisco Bay Area.
I have recently become a volunteer for an organization called, US
India Political Action Committee or USINPAC.
The USINPAC mission is to impact policy on issues of concern to the
Indian American community in the United States.
USINPAC provides bipartisan support to candidates for federal,
state and local office who address the issues that are important to
the Indian American community. Issues promoted by USINPAC reflect
the concerns voiced by the Indian American community. Some such
issues of current concern are:
- India Relations: Building strong economic, strategic, and
cultural ties between the two countries
- Business: Ensuring that policies on business provide
opportunities and access for Indian American entrepreneurs
- Immigration: Promoting a fair and balanced policy on immigration
as it relates to the Indian American community
I have two immediate needs for volunteers in the following area:
1. We want to identify high profile Indian Americans in several
industry sectors. The most immediate priority is to identify
Indian Americans in the financial services and healthcare sectors .
2. We need volunteers to develop the Website for the India Caucus
on the Hill.
Please share this with all Indian-Americans you know and urge them
to join USINPAC at http://www.usinpac.com/. I also encourage each
of you to contact me if you would like to become a volunteer for
USINPAC in your respective cities.
Thank you for your time.
