First I would like to thank the moderator of this group for allowing
me to join and learn more about MRSA. I run a group which is for
people who have been touched by necrotizing faciitis (the flesh
eating bacteria). Generally NF is caused by a Strep infection. (yes
the same bacteria which causes strep throat), in some the bacteria
becomes antibiotic resistant and moves through the body at about an
inch an hour. The only way to get rid of it is to surgically get rid
of it. Of course, like staph , if the bacteria gets into the
bloodstream it can cause TSS. The mortality rate is about 75%. I am
a survivor of this disease too. Athough NF is not contageous, it can
cause a low immunity and since the patients must stay in the
hospital, sometimes for months, many do get antibiotic staph as a
result. (I got MRSA last year in my leg, I broke it and needed
surgery, they put my in a nursing home to recover where I got
staph), I had to have a picc line put in and after a while it
responded to vancamyacin, (which git me very sick with every dose).
I would like to know more about the differnces and likenesses of
strep and staph.
Well hello everyone

Judy,
I have added a link for a new forum at MRSA Watch. They are a UK
based site and have just added a forum for suffers in the US. There
are some very informed posters there who I am sure can enlighten you
about your condition. Please post your experience there.

I am so sorry you are going through this. Is there anyway you could speak to someone else about your condition? When I was diagnosed with MRSA I kept getting different answers from different medical people as there seems to be quite a difference in knowledge about MRSA. I am in no way saying that your current drs. don't know what they are doing but it might help if you could find an infectious disease specialist or someone in infectious disease who is familiar with MRSA. Perhaps that could help with your treatment. I don't know where you live but closest to me would me Madison WI. I began looking on the internet and searching for MRSA or infectious disease specialists so I could find some sort of information. I did find out that there are actually people (doctors) who specialize in MRSA and some testify in court about it. I ended up going to one in WI just so I could ease my mind a little as I was going crazy over this worrying nonstop and
stressing myself out. It did help to know a little more about it and at least be able to speak to someone with more knowledge. Good luck to you. Sorry I don't know too much but I wish you the best for your healing and peace of mind. Lori

I told him I was still experiencing a lot of pain in the leg and that it was getting worse, he told me that the pain was from walking and to stay off of it for a month to give it time to heal. I wasnt comfortable with that. 2 weeks ago I had to be taken back into surgery to have the wound debrieved again for the 7th time, he had to scrape out 70% of my tibia to het the infection out, we hope, and my bone doctor informed me today that the culture came back MRSA. I have to see my ID doc on tuesday to discuss. I am at my wits end with this, I am in constant pain and am on percocet which at this

Hi, I was diagnosed with MRSA in a wound in my leg in April of this
year, the doctors are having a very hard time getting the wound to
close. 6 weeks ago my id doctor took me off of all meds because of
continuous infections in my picc lines. I told him I was still
experiencing a lot of pain in the leg and that it was getting worse,
he told me that the pain was from walking and to stay off of it for
a month to give it time to heal. I wasnt comfortable with that. 2
weeks ago I had to be taken back into surgery to have the wound
debrieved again for the 7th time, he had to scrape out 70% of my
tibia to het the infection out, we hope, and my bone doctor informed
me today that the culture came back MRSA. I have to see my ID doc on
tuesday to discuss. I am at my wits end with this, I am in constant
pain and am on percocet which at this time is just barely taking the
pain and burn away. My leg has been infected with bacteria since
8/1/03. How long am I going to have to go through this?? I need some

I was just recently diagnosed with MRSA and was on vancomycin in the
hospital for a week and am taking zyvox at home. I'm trying to
learn more about this.

Hi judy,
Have your family members read some of the information at
tahilla.typepad.com/mrsawatch/ It will help them to understand just
how serious your condition is.
I just lost my Father on 9/14/04. He got mrsa at a hospital during
hip replacement surgery on July 5, 2004.

Hi, I am new to the group and would like to know if others have
developed other bacteria infections since or before having mrsa. I
have been diagnosed with 3 other bacteria infections serratia,
pseudamonis and staff, I am now awaiting a culture of my picc line
because it had to be removed due to infection. Also has anyone won a
malpractice suit againt the hospital from which they contracted MRSA?
I was diagnosed with mrsa in april of 2004 after having surgery on
my leg to debrieve a previous staph infection. The infection had
spread to my tibia and I had to have a large portion scraped out. I
have since had 2 more surgeries to replace the bone and reconnect
the tendon. I have been on vancomyacin since being diagnosed and
have developed another bacteria infection in my blood due to my cvp
line. They took out my cvp and replaced it with my 4th picc line.
Yesterday I had to have the picc line removed due to another
infection, we are awaiting the results of the tip culture on the
picc line. Has anyone else had numerous infections along with their
MRSA infection, I know I am not the only one in the world suffering
from this but I feel like my family just doesnt understand the
effect it has on me. I am at my wits end and just feel like giving
up. I have been on IV therapy for 13 months because of these
bacteria infections the first one starting 8/01/03 with simple
staph.
