My problem is more that I have been eating off the same silver as my Nana – that I have ingested the bacteria directly since her sputum is loaded with MRSA. Do I feel lousy? Yes. I need 9 to 10 hours of sleep a night to make it through the rest of the day, and my blood work has shown signs of infection for months. I’ve been sickly since early this year. My doctor has done nothing about it, and I finally said no more blood work. I no longer wanted to worry while he fumbled for answers. He’s a really smart guy, too. I just gave the months of blood work data to my sons and tell them to do what they have to when whatever I have finally knocks me senseless.
What I’m wondering is will a blood infection show up in a nasal smear? From what I’ve read on the CDC site and others, the answer is no – but not equivocally no. It’s a tough read. It directs that the site of infection must be tested.
Another thing is how did my grandmother have MRSA pneumonia for months and survive? Wow – tough old bird just doesn’t cut it. I’m amazed. I know the nebulizer helped, but gee… At 100, she really is amazing if this was the cause of her constant pneumonia. It was, at least, confirmed that she has had pneumonia for many months.
But my grandmother does not have an infectious disease doctor, and now I’m beginning to worry about this. I think I need to find one. I think I need to find one for both of us.
Thanks for any help in advance.
Joyce

MRSA
Hi Joyce...I was close to my grandmother too and
empathize with you. My MRSA doctors are very mysterious
about how they answer my questions. I do know that you can
get the MRSA off your skin by washing in a solution of Hibiclens for 1-2
months. You can get this off the counter at any drug
store. MRSA is active when you have skin infections. He
said NOT to worry when I don't have these....and I haven't.
Be careful when you touch sweat or any excrement from the
body. Best to wash in hot water after exposure and to carry
some Purell; constantly use it 6 tims a day - at least. This is
what I have been told to do and right now, I have no boils at
all. Good luck.

I’m new here and looking for information.
My grandmother turned 100 this year. She's a tough old bird. She's had medication-resistan
t pneumonia for nearly a year. The nursing home has put her on antibiotic after antibiotic to no avail. All's they've done is made her sputum clearer.
I visit her often. I love the old woman. I bring her special meals and eat with her. (If you think there's an Uh-oh coming, you're right.) I've been eating off the same silverware and off the same plate. Just like we might at home. I’ve tended clearing her lungs – catching her sputum and not been careful by washing my hands after throwing the paper towels filled with the stuff in the trash. I just didn’t know.
Starting in the beginning of 2006, my white blood count has been fluctuating upwards. My CRP levels climbed to nearly 8, and my doctor insisted it was from elevated cholesterol levels. My lymphocytes are trending a bit lower. He did other tests indicating further that I had an infection -- vacuolated neutrophils. He said that could be from alcohol or vitamin B defeciency -- I don't drink and take a heavy-duty B supplement. After several months of monitoring my blood levels, I told him to stop; I no longer wanted to worry considering he was doing nothing about them.
Now when I sleep at night, I have to turn over because my hips hurt. Bone involvement? I had a nose culture yesterday. But if it's systemic, will it show on a nose culture?
How long can you have this without it going critical on you? I need 9 or 10 hours of sleep a night just to feel rested. Eight hours just doesn’t cut it. Then I’m tired most of the day soon after waking.
The thing that hurts most is the nursing home will not allow me in the door until my tests are complete. I hope I can glean the info I need from people here.
Regards,
Joyce
