Staph in my Trach Tube   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #382 of 2520 |
I have a disease called Tracheal Stenosis where unknown why scar
tissue gets in trachea. Lived with 11 yrs. Had a metal stent put in
trachea to keep it open 6 yrs. ago which was BAD FOR MY TRACHEA. FDA
report came out last July saying metal stents for tracheas were bad.

I live in the Dallas area, but know of a famous dr. who is excellent
with tracheas and went to Boston for removal of the stent surgery
Dec. 20th. He did remove my metal stent, but I ended up with a T-
Tube (Trach), suppose to maybe be temporary for 6 months until my
trachea heals from the major surgery and the stent ruining my trachea.

In meantime came home with antibiotics (Levaquin 500mg a day) 10
days. To make a long long story short, in the last 3 1/2 months
since my surgery and being home in Dallas, I have had non-stop Staph
infections. I have taken close to 200 antibiotics. Levaquin and
then switched to Dicloxicillin 500 mg. 4 x day for a 5 weeks. Now
I'm weaning off of Dicloxicillin 1 pill a day for 2 weeks and then
off.

We'll see what happens.

My trachea needs to heal before I can see if I can have my Trach tube
removed and have major surgery to repair my trachea. But can't have
this done until the infections completely clear up.

I never get a fever or chills with my infections. I do get hoarse,
and when I suction my tube in my throat, it smells bad, I get weak,
my throat area around my tube drains, gets redder, swells somewhat.

While on the antibiotics I do great.

Please say prayers that it will stay away.

Thanks,
Linda/Tx
