I am a 54 year old female who has fought MRSA for over a year now.In
January 2005 my 26 year old son was shot and was in ICU for 5
day's.During this time I never left the hospital staying & sleeping
in the ICU waiting room.
During this time I developed an abcess on the back of my head near
the hairline. It finally got to throbbing so bad the ICU nurse
recomended I walk down to ER and have it looked at.The doctors lanced
it drained it and bandaged me.Told me to come back in the next night
to see how it was.Well....I ended up having emergency surgery cause
so much of the skin was dead. This left me with a hole the size of a
tennis ball and I ended up having skin graphs to finally close the
wound.
In the meantime, my son was discharged from the hospital and had
contracted MRSA also. That Feb. I had to go back for a checkup an had
another abcess in my right armpit. It was removed in the office.
Then at the end of Feb. I had ANOTHER abcess on my left cheek.I was
put in isolation and then told I had MRSA.First time I had dealt with
this new disease but was happy they had finally put a name for it.
I was given different antibiotics by IV and after 2 weeks they found
that Vancomycin & Cylidamycin seemed to be working. After I was
released, my primary care doctor had bloodwork done on me and I STILL
had it! So I was put on Cylindamycin for 5 months then I was switched
to Eurethamycin which I still take.
My son has went thru extensive medications for MRSA and his daughter
who was 2 at the time also contracted it! On her little bottom which
had to be lanced and drained and she was also put on antibiotics.
I still see a Infectious Disease doctor and he tell's me that MRSA is
rampant! In hospitals, nursing homes, doctors offices, health clubs and
folks....this is scary!
Sorry bout the length of this message. It is so good to find others
who are going thru the same thing.
Glad to meet ya'll! Lynny
