Dry skin is an avenue for CA-MRSA Community Acquired MRSA to enter the body.
We are having a lot of success with Aveeno lotion. Take a small amount of
Bactroban ointment, mix a couple squirts of Aveeno in your hand and rub all
over limb, repeat on all legs and arms that are showing any irritation.
I'm hoping this is necessary right now due to winter skin. I'm hoping it
isn't going to be a year round fight for my son.
Anyway - it is the only thing that works. We tried Eucerin with no luck.
We also are using the Paul Mitchell brand of Tea Tree Oil shampoo. My boys
like it (ages 10 and 14) but I can't say it's done anything extremely
noticeable and they are on the second bottle.
Pets and people both can transmit to the other. If anyone (2 legged or 4)
is getting any kind of surgery, let the doctor know and take precautions
because of the bacteria. Take them pages printed from the internet about
it.
CA-MRSA is becoming very common but until a doctor has seen it and treated
it for themselves, they still will misdiagnose it 7 or 8 times out of 10.
When they realized what my son had, they had 14 doctors come through to look
at him at one appointment. They had the whole Infectious Disease and
Dermatology departments come through and learn from him.
Good luck and let us know how things are going for you!

There's lots of information about pets (they say cats, rabbits and dogs), do
a google search or try

Since I first posted, things took a turn for the worst, I had to go back to
the hospital several times, they finally told me in the ER that they didn't
feel comfotable treating me and the I needed an ID specialist, that might
put me on exotic antibiotics. Luckily, I have had things turn back for the
better just as quick as they were turning bad. The ID said things look good
and gave me the ointment for the nose as a precaution. As far as the pets go
you will probably encounter just as much strong opinion on the "oh don't
worry about the pet transmission" as much as the "lack of knowledge" on many
doctors regarding MRSA. (the passions run high on both sides of the issue).
After initially trying to talk use out of it, Our vet has agreed to test our
dog when
she gets spade next month...although it may be unnessisary if I got it from
myself etc. This thing has caused enough problems for me I still want to
pursue it.
As far as the other person who just posted, I consider myself EXTREMELLY, in
fact a miracle, lucky that you situation did not happen to me. I'm sure
countless people die constantly because of the lack of knowledge. I think it
is outragous that you had to go through it and, my personal opinion is that
you should look into legal action (for many reasons beyond just your case.
Anyways just to add, the ID told me that this could have occurred for
several reasons, my immune system was very worn down at the time, I didn't
clean the wound (thought it was a zit just like you and tried to drain it
myself), then was exposed to the organism itself in the environment, my
genetic makeup and the outside fact that the organism
is become more prevelant to to overuse and improper use of antibiotics. So
he said probably certain combinations fell together to cause this. I might
receover for a while but I will be certainly predisposed to this as I age.
I'm not sure if is like most diseases where being exposed to it helps your
body recognize it because you develope some antibodies.
p.s. I also found that all the hand sanitizer, bacterial soap and hydrogen
perokide I've been using has made my skin raw. If anyone knows what of the
following people can use safly without skin cell breakdown for wounds please
post (i.e. bactine, neosporin, iodine antiseptic). Please let us know I've
found they have a lotion called peachy clean that is made with the
ingreadiant of bactine but don't know what the long term use of that does to
the skin. I'm told just soap and hot water is better than all of the above.
Thanks
