The rapid blood test for MRSA came on the market in January and is
made by BD. The test uses molecular methods with results in 2 hrs. I
don't know it's accuracy rate or know anyone who has been tested. I
would think very few hospitals would have it. BD also produces the
PCR testing for MRSA which is a rapid DNA method with results in 2
hrs, as opposed to clinical cultures which can take 2-3 days for
results and accuracy rate is 70-85%. I have been tested using PCR
testing and the accuracy rate is very high - over 98% and done with a
simple nasal swab. It is the gold standard in the industry.
