I just joined and was hoping that there are others out there that
have survived MRSA pneumonia. I had double pneumonia this past April
and after trying to treat me at home, I continued to worsen. The
doctor finally admitted me to the hospital. I was given as many as 4
different IV antibiotics the first several days and by day 5 I
worsened again. When I first went in to the hospital as culture on
what I coughed up said "simple" staph. However, after a week in the
hospital, a culture optained through broncoscopy resulted in MRSA. I
was devastated as my Dad died from MRSA pneumonia just 10 months
before. I am 60 years old, however I am very active. We have a farm
and I work hard daily. This infection laid me low. I am now home
after being on vancomin IV for 5 days in the hospital and 10 days at
home. I have had not fever in over a month and my CT Scan shows much
improved. However, I still have some chest pain when I breath deeply
and I still get short of breath on exertion. The doctor says he still
hears some crackling sounds when he listens to my lungs. I am scared
that this will come back. What can I do to help prevent it from
coming back? Any suggestions much appreciated.
