Hello all.

My name is Lisa and I live in Rhode Island. I have a 2 1/2 year old
son just recently diagnosed as both infected with and colonized with
MRSA

Justin is adopted. I have had him for 14 months, since he was 1
1/2. He has been sick ALOT... many colds that go right to his chest,
lots of ear infections, fevers, etc. He also seems to have a lot of
skin problems... rashes, etc. 2 days before Easter he got a pimple
on his bum... by Easter morning it was the size of his fist... We
went to the hospital after lunch (we were visiting out of town
relatives) and they kept us for three days. They cut and drained the
abscess and said it was a staph infection... gave him IV antibiotics
and sent us home with 10 days of oral antibiotic. We followed up
with our own doc who said that the wound culture hadn't come back but
it didn't really matter since the antibiotic seemed to work.

1 wk after finishing meds, Justin had unexplained high fever for
several days.... 1 wk after that was clear (two weeks ago), he got
another pimple that grew quickly... also on his bum/other cheek...

a trip to the doc and a culture revealed MRSA 4+! We got the culture
results from the hospital 1 month earlier and that showed gram
positive MRSA 4+ also. a nasal culture revealed he is a MRSA carrier
as well...

So, antibiotics were changed to clindamycin and it cleared up... he
got off it on monday and now has two pimples I am concerned about...

his appointment with the infectious disease specialist is tomorrow...
needless to say I have spent the last 2 weeks researching MRSA and
driving myself crazy... also... justin has cried more in the past
two weeks than in the past year!

I was thrilled to find this group and can't wait to hear from
others...

i'll keep you informed.

thanks for listening,
Lisa
