I will try lol. Christian is using a loaner chair, it's the seat I have been wanting for them for a long time and he is having a complete fit about it. He only tolerated it for about an hour last night before he asked to be put in bed and said he wasn't going to school today. I tried putting his roho seat on it but of course that was out because the type of chair just isn't right. I mean, it's more of a schooter then a wheelchair and the seat is leather like a car seat so that would have slipped right off. It nearly did when I was trying to make him sit in it to go to school before I decided just to let him stay home. After the fact I realized I had a sheepskin car seat cover that I bought for Nathan's chair but no one puts it back on when they wash it that we could have used but like I said it was after the fact. Part of it is that the seat is too low but I can't figure out how to change it higher. It still doesn't make me happier that he refused to go but that he tried so hard not to be picked up and not to be put in the chair (he has never done this before) reinforced that the seat is genuinely hurting him and he can't tilt the chair in order to releave the pressure, all he can do is recline the back. In fact Nathan warned me that he was having issues and had to put his feet off the foot rest in an effort to stretch out a bit and releave the discomfort and that was within an hour of using it. Still, if there is an emergancy I can still get him out of the house. There was of course the added issue of them being able to safely secure it on the bus.

I was just thinking that my son's SSI is federal but it is easy to forget and think it comes from the state. I even had to correct that in my own email. Christian gets most of his through his dads SSD now but their Medicaid and food stamps are applied for seperately. We have a card now instead of paper foodstamps (states probably do) but never cash as they are trying to make sure it is only used for food.

Hope today is not the bad bad friday you feared. :)

The state is short of money, but not out of money without a budget and just have to make cuts where they can. The state pays the feds 233.00 a month of my ssi and this counts as food stamp also, so we get our food stamps as cash in my monthy SSI payment. But i fould out that the state is not going to pay the feds the monthly payment, but the feds will pay out of the next 2 months and the state has to pay them back later. So will not be as bad as i was thinking and Rosa will give me more money when she gets her extra pay next month.
Hope you having a good day hun :)

My son's aid said they are having a lot of problems but are you thinking the state is just going to shut down and not have any services? How can they cut off SSI? SSI is a federal program right? I mean, I know that the different states and probably cities have different amounts but it is still a Federal program right?

Hello all,
Hope you are doing good and had a good day. Doing ok here and hanging in there and staying happy and upbeat. I have to go to the hospital for testing in the next day or two and most likely Friday as i have to be here for my new bed and get the new controler for this power chair. Had a good day over all and getting ready to watch Lost. My mom messed her leg up again at Wal Mart and not getting around much and stayed home tonight and is taking off from work and hope she is coming in the morning to take Rosa to work and Rosa to get my meds and somethings from town when Rosa gets off work.
My mom did call and after testing my niece's baby she is carrying has water on the brian and other things wrong and no Inc. at all right now so not good she luck with this upcoming baby and she is going to put in for Medi-cal now and see what happens. So having MD with this baby is not the big worry for us this time.
Getting ready for bad bad Friday and waiting to see howe much the state cuts off my SSI and how short i am. Going to have to get out there this weekend to raise money for us MD people here in town just for us to make it.
Hope you have a great rest of your week. :)    not going to worry about stuff and enjoy what we have here and be thankful for what help i get and that i have a warm, dry house food and more or less good health. lol   I am breathing a lot better today :)

I'm not sure if this helps any, but there is information about the upcoming budget proposal and details on the California site ( http://www.ebudget.ca.gov/BudgetSummary/BSS/BSS.html ) It may give you an iea what they are proposing and also a Governors message (which you have probably seen)
I hope all goes well.

Well, it is only Wednesday so you are getting an early update this week, but what a week it has already been.   I did go up to Grandma’s last weekend to celebrate my birthday.  We got takeout from the airport and had cheesecake for dessert.  You can watch a montage here  http://www.onetruemedia.com/otm_site/view_shared?p=7ebdfa1570d6288d5ab70f&skin_id=1605&pid=624&utm_source=otm&utm_medium=email   I got my presents from everyone – great gifts everyone – and got my phone book to do my resource notebook for my Rehab notebook.  Strange, I know, but you know me, a little bent but strange but essentially normal.
I am starting to feel a little better thankfully.  Knocking on wood, I survived the flu with no hospital.  It was a year ago that I was admitted to the hospital for my LONG, LONG stay.  Something I do not ever want to do again.  It just really leaves a =E 2bad taste” in my mouth and many many bad, bad memories.  Thank God it is over and I learned a lot and it will never happen again.

Thanks for your entertaining, and informative, blog, Michael.  It is good to remind people of the dangers of carbon monoxide.  We have a CO detector in our home, and it went off for the first time on New Year's Eve.  Why?  Because we had a long fondue dinner and I guess even that little flame, over a few hours, made a significant change in our breathing environment.  Who would have expected that?

Take care and enjoy your hot chocolate and gorgeous winter scenery!

Hello Johanna,
I am doing better today so far and trying hard to stay warm and
not run the main heat much to save on gas. So hoping i do not have
to go to the ER. I do need to go by Friday for blood work and testing
before i go to the doctor Monday. Not sure i can make it now with the
cold air and we can't use dial a ride until i get all the paper work done
and get my ID for the dial a ride vans.
We are stocking up as things are getting bad and just going to get worse
and with out a lot of money we need to start now and build up as we can
and with the state going to cut my SSI until we get a budget we are going
to be short of stuff soon. Good news is Rosa's pay can't be cut off or paid
with a IOU like they want to do for a lot of people here. Too many druggies
and mexicans around here so need to stock up on a few weapons again.
Wish we could have got some of the ones my mom's bf had when he died.
In California now days you have to be stocked up and be ready for what you
can be.
Hope you have a good week hun :)
*Hugs*
Greg

Hello all,
Hope you had a great weekend and having a good day today. We had a good weekend here and got out on Saturday to Wal Mart and the weather was cold and windy on Sunday so had to stay in and i am not doing good with my breathing at all and my left lung is hurting real bad and just about sure i am filling up with fluid and only bad when i am up out of bed and breathing harder or talking so very odd this time as i am not coughing (sp?) at night in bed and was feeling good when i got up, so not sure what is going on this time, but other then the cough and lungs hurting and some drainage not have other signs of being real sick. Last time i had real bad pain that would not stop at the end of my rib cage on the right lower lobe side and went to the ER in the middle of the night as always go when i have chest pains not stopping. I should try and got to the doctor soon or wait until my sister is back to work in a day or so and go to the ER. Will try and get her to stop by and see what she thinks i should do. I just got a call today and getting the rest of the parts for my bed and the new joy stick/ controler for the new power chair and lucky for us we know to hit the controp just right to get it to work when it stops now, now i have to hope the new guy can put the new one in right and rewrap the wires right, if not we have back up parts and wire wrap. So hope i am not in the hospital when they come on Thursday to do the work. Most likely we will call 911 for the run to the ER like always lol, i should have a fast pass or something as much as we use the ER now lol, but is better now that my sister works the ER all the time and last time i got my own room in the ER with TV and the good doctor was working that day. I think i will ask my sister what doctor is working and go then and get my heart test done also when i go as could be fluid around the heart and lungs. I hate feeling like this as i think i went out too soon before i was all the way over my cold as the cold/cool air gets to me real bad and has me coughing real bad.
Well today is going good and Rosa is working a long day today, first time in a long time and then going to make the store trip Brian and i could not make Sunday and she was not in the mood to do. My mom and sisters family had a good time this weekend going to Knotts Berry Farm and the Pirate Dinner Show and i got a cool train from Knotts and cool stuff from the Pirate show. Still have to download and look at mom's pictures of the trip. Mom got out of one of the train cars wrong and hurt her leg and foot and took today off work and came by to give me my gifts and was doing good and not much pain i guess. She has to be more careful being almost 72 and still working.
Been watching my news as much as i can this weekend and today and talking over what is going on with friends and not seeing much of a way out for us now and just sitting in to enjoy what time we have left and we are stocking up with water, food, warming stuff and outside/indoor heat and if the state is not cutting off all SSI state part of the payments on Friday i will stock up more and we are working on a saving fund and will be getting our weapons soon, found some good 22's that fold up in there own case and fit in the one of the back packs here. I also have a full first aid/ medical kit to get us by and have a good stock on my meds in case Medi-cal cut off buying them until we get a budget here in California. So doing what we can now and coming up with plans and where or who to get help from , for bills, food and what not. My on line work is done now as no one is buying new stuff and even hard times for writers now and even my stocks took a good hit, but some have come back up nice and still worth something lol.  I do not ask for a lot and we live as cheap of a place as you can and still be close to food and shopping as we can be here in town.  Rosa is going to get more hours for me as my needs have gone up on this last review, just Brian messed up a bit and did know how much time i needed for help with grooming at night and brushing my teeth so that part had gone down some , but ended up i think with like 30 point something more hours for 200 hours a month and did the math and i have 6.66666 hours of paid care a day lol, bad number. They do a lot more but only so much they are going to pay for and wish i was back in 82-86 or 94-95 when i was making tons of money and would pay them more for help. But the good days are over and so wish pogs had stayed big with the kids as i could make 30,000 on a good month. Wal Mart even had me run games there and let me sell my stuff, did like almost 7,000 in 4 hours there and ran out of stock on would have sold more.
Well this is a book and i was just planning a update lol. Thanks to all my real on line friends who sent real cards, post cards and gift for my birthday this month, was a nice shock and made what was looking like a bad birthday one of the best i have had :)
If my sends and emails stop i will be in the hospital and hope i can take a lap top and get the good wireless hook up room in the ER or hospital room. :)    take care and have a great week my friends. :)

Greg

Sorry Mike...couldn' t disagree with you more..
Believe it or not  most parents do know who has the disease.
I know as a mother i could almost literally feel  everything my children were hurting from and I can tell the mothers on this list are the same ..
Having spent over half my life in hospitals and rehab centers  I have encountered many different parents and the majority were sacrificing their own lives to try to help their children.
Most of them were prayer warriors too.
My son is 41 now and  has been on a vent for almost 20 yrs.  and he would tell you the same.

I think parents forget who really has this disease.   It's a heck of a thing to be so ignored sometimes.  I don't mean to be ill mannered about it but how do they think we have lived so long with this despicable monster?  Parents please listen, you think medicine is going to save your children.  Hate to break to you guys, only God can save us.

Hi everyone:

So, my week has been okay, enjoyed sleeping in and enjoying my rest, so that has been good.  Monday, I slept in and enjoyed relaxing, reading homework for school and just doing nothing spectacular.  Tuesday’s classes were okay.  We discussed the Civil War and First Amendment, totally thrilling, can ’t you tell!!  My afternoon class was okay, had to practice doing opening counseling sessions on others. It was okay, but hard to be serious and to try to get into the mood when you are asking your friend why they started in counseling or what was their favorite vacation…why was that your favorite vacation?  Tell me about your favorite part?  Just weird.

I had a colonoscopy a few years ago.  I was totally sedated for mine and had no adverse reactions.  I would do this again without question if it meant finding something early enough to save my life and spend more time with my family.  Good luck Julia.  I hope all goes well.

I have LGMD with some restricted lung disease and heart involvement. I also have Rheumatoid Arthritis, among a few other things.
I just turned 50 and my primary physician scheduled me for a colonoscopy. I have no symptoms, just a 50th birthday present, I guess. I can't seem to get a peace about having this. The sedation is not aggressive I know, but it's still sedation. I'm picked and prodded on so much I just really hate to have it done if I don't have to. I'm usually not a wimp about these things but I just go through so much I hate to add to it if I don't have to. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

We should all get that done at age 50 for sure. I have a year to go and going to have to plan and ask out to go about mine. Hoping we can talk Medi-cal to put me in the hospital the night before to clean me out like i did with my cat scan when i was in the hospital in 2000 or can go in for "chest pains" and have the test down when i am in over night for testing, which i am over due for heart test and can try and get it all done at once. I would get it done for sure and it's good for peace of mind also.
