While I was at the PPMD conference last month, I ran into a
women who is the South African PPMD. She was telling us about how bad it
is there when it comes to getting powerchairs for DMD boys. They have to
pay completely out of pocket, there is no insurance to help.
I just wanted to put this out to the groups. When your
son gets a new powerchair, what do you do with the old one? In the past,
I have always given Jason’s to
the MDA loaner closet. This time, I’m giving it to Maxine in South Africa.
They will pay for shipping. Of course, if there can be more than one
chair, then the costs will be less per chair. I still have Jason’s old chair from 3 year ago. So, is
anyone has a chair they are no longer using, would you please consider donating
it the PPMD South Africa.
