MDA has decided to cancel Summer Camp nationwide due to
heightened fears of the Swine Flu at the last minute. My nephew is
extremely upset and I’m very angry. The camp director was in tears
when she called my sister to let her know what happened. He was supposed
to go to camp tomorrow and had everything ready for days. All of the
counselors and volunteers were already at camp when they found out. All
the food and supplies are paid for and already to go and now to waste.
All the months of planning shot to hell. They should have made this decision
weeks if not months ago. This Swine Flu thing has been blown way out of
proportion. Not only is it no worse than the regular flu, it isn’t anywhere
close to the regular flu in numbers. The regular flu kills on average
36000 people in the US every year, the H1N1 swine flu has only killed 87.
The numbers just don’t add up. It’s the time frame that
bothers me the most. Not to mention that 17 year olds were on their last
year of camp are now screwed out of it.
