The fatality, the third in a row within two weeks, prompted the Ministry of Health to issue an emergency directive calling for a nationwide halt of the vaccine’s circulation.

The fatal vaccines in HCMC and two others in central Thanh Hoa province were reportedly bought from the same distributor, but were from different lots.

Health authorities said further tests would be conducted to pinpoint the exact causes of deaths.

The vaccine, sponsored by UNICEF, has been administered to over 4 million neonates in Vietnam without incident, the ministry said.
