"Judge not, that you be judged. For with what judgement you judge, you be judged; and the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. Why do you look at the speck of your Brother's eye, yet not consider the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your Brother, 'Let me remove the speck from your eye; and look a plank IS in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remve the speck from your own eye..."
"Do not give what is Holy to the Dogs or cast your pearls to the Swine..."
The term beat generation was introduced by Jack Kerouac in approximately 1948 to
describe his social circle to the novelist John Clellon Holmes (who published an
early novel about the beat generation, titled Go, in 1952, along with a
manifesto of sorts in the New York Times Magazine: "This is the beat
generation"). The adjective "beat" (introduced by Herbert Huncke) had the
connotations of "tired" or "down and out", but Kerouac added the paradoxical
connotations of "upbeat", "beatific", and the musical association of being "on
the beat".

Calling this relatively small group of struggling writers,
students, hustlers, and drug addicts a "generation" was to make the claim that
they were representative and important—the beginnings of a new trend,
analogous to the influential Lost Generation.
The members of the beat generation were new bohemian libertines, who engaged in
a spontaneous, sometimes messy, creativity. The beat writers produced a body of
written work controversial both for its advocacy of non-conformity and for its
non-conforming style. Though Kerouac dubbed the term "Beat generation" in 1948,
followers of "Beat literature" did not emerge until the late 1950s and early
1960s. Kerouac's On The Road, which heralded the beginning of "Beat" popularity,
was not published until 1957. By the time the "Beat generation" generated a
following in the mainstream society, most of the Beat writers had descended into
drug addiction and obscurity.
Echoes of the Beat Generation run throughout all the forms of
alternative/counter culture that have existed since then (e.g. "hippies",
"punks", etc). The Beat Generation can be seen as the first modern "subculture".
See the "Influences on Western Culture" section below.
The major beat writings are Jack Kerouac's On the Road, Allen Ginsberg's Howl,
and William Burroughs' Naked Lunch. Both Howl and Naked Lunch became the focus
of obscenity trials in the United States that helped to liberalize what could be
legally published.

We do live in a global police state friends like it or not. I for one do NOT
like fascist hitlerlike police states and still believe in the fairy tale of red
white n blue however if we really think America has not been sold out from
underneath the red white n blue then perhaps we should start with Lou Dobb's
outsourcing America we will then realise China actually owns the USA not us.

Having trouble reading this email? View it on our website.
You Can Make a Difference
did you see this message last week? You can still make a big impact in this effort to dismantle the drug war by sending a message to Congress today! - Bill
If you could only hear it... in the halls of Congress these days, people are talking about how alternatives to prison for drug offenses could help the budget crisis.
They're also talking about how recent major reforms in New York drug policy provide a model for action.
They're talking, quite simply, about the first steps in dismantling the drug war.
But talk isn't enough -- we have a major opportunity right now for action.
Next week the Senate will hold hearings on unfair sentencing differences for crack and powder cocaine. Your senators could dramatically reduce the number of nonviolent Americans locked up on drug charges -- if they hear from you. Take action to make sure Congress reforms unfair sentencing practices.
We've done it before.
A few weeks ago, DPA Network members like you successfully rolled back the worst parts of New York's Rockefeller Drug Laws, harsh mandatory minimum sentences for low-level drug law offenses. It took years of work, but together, we've shifted not just policy, but thinking about drug laws. Legislators in New York have called for a new direction in drug policy.

I must say that we've come a long way since the old west yet are still so
ignorant we carry on needless wars like the futile violent never ending
worthless drug war. Here's an article taking us back in time perhaps making some
of us appreciate what we have others like me bitching about what we don't have
nonetheless it's always good to look back in time and realise hey ya know what?
It's not all that bad,,, and yes we can leave our descendants a better world in
which to live. I do my work here for them as you see if it only be for us there
would be little value in layin' on the line.

We CAN Make THE Difference!
MAYDAY 2009 Chalk4Peace!
On the pavements and sidewalks of our towns and cities
You are invited to Take Action! -
For your local organiser, LOOK IN THE MIRROR
It takes very little to participate in the global MAYDAY2009 chalk4peace , all
you need is a piece of chalk, you can chalk anything you want: a heart, a smiley
face, a word a poem or a flower - on a wall, a pavement somewhere, anywhere! -
It washes off in the rain so don't worry.
Invite all your friends on facebook, myspace etc & beyond, this can
spread faster than `flu, break the surface & appear in the mainstream
media.
Invite people to join you, if you have extra chalk, people will want
to join in `cos its so much FUN!
Get together in groups, organise chalk4peace parties picnics, print
leaflets, send press releases.
Your participation can be as big or small as you want
Bring some colour into the grey streets & turn our cities into
gigantic art galleries

(Scroll down for "WHAT CAN YOU DO?" to Participate in this
GLOBAL outpouring of public art. Where we make
our personal statements for peace on the pavements and sidewalks of
our cities all over our world.")
Chalk4Peace MAYDAY 2009 IS HAPPENING!
All around the globe, together we are decorating, dedicating and
declaring, in deep sincerity our collective call for peace.
Chalk4Peace is about our empowerment. We The People, our global
culture, all people everywhere and our common desire to live in peace.
The Chalk4Peace project has already transformed the experience of
thousands of people attending demonstrations for peace all over the
world during the past 7 years. Chalk4Peace is both a tool and a
conduit for non violent public self expression, and participation in
the growing global movement for peace.
Chalk4Peace is an opportunity for all of us of all ages to make our
feelings known, especially the young, whose future is in dire jeopardy
as our global village falls faster and faster into the fear breeding
fear breeding fear spiral.
Our global culture is teetering on the edge of extinction.
No one person alone can turn this around, but together WE CAN!
"The Structure of world peace cannot be the work of one man, one
party,or one nation. It must be a peace which rests on the cooperative
effort of the whole world"
Eleanor Roosevelt
Our basic human instincts drive us to seek safety. This is what this
chaos is all about. Our essential human survival instincts are acting
out of context with the wider global cultural need resulting in
mistrust, fear and conflict.
Everywhere the media is bombarding us with WAR TALK, distractions and
negative belief patterns that encourage us to believe that the future
of our world is out of our hands entirely.
One place we still have communal access to, is OUR STREETS.
We can balance our GLOBAL CONVERSATION with collective self-expression
using OUR STREETS AS OUR MEDIA!
Chalk4Peace is one step, a catalyst that can transform our global
conversation as we the people, en masse make our statement that is our
common aspiration for peace.
START NOW! Just DO IT!
Carry some chalk with you, invite a friend with you, to chalk
inspirations on the pavement whenever and wherever you fancy.
Chalk is harmless, cheap and washes away within a few days.
Especially PARTICIPATE On MAYDAY 2009
GLOBAL Chalk4Peace ACTION!
Make it happen in your Community!
(Scroll down for "WHAT CAN YOU DO?")
Lets us turn our grey streets into a living river of colour and
possibility - With poetry, hearts, peace symbols, empowering
statements, also expressions of our frustrations and despair.
All will be seen for several days by thousands of people, then as they
are washed away by the elements WE CAN CONTINUE to find fresh places
to Chalk4Peace.
We don't need to be an artist to Chalk4Peace. Every statement, however
small or large becomes part of the amazing tapestry that is our global
future.
This unique event conceivably, could be the largest of its kind in
modern history.
It is a global effort that is happening.
We The People are spreading the word and making the effort to be a
part of this huge creative endeavor to bring Peace back into the
equation.
It is our goal for at least one million or more of us to participate
with this sidewalk/pavement chalk extravaganza, at thousands of
locations, in as many countries, cities and towns around the world as is
possible.
So WHAT CAN YOU DO to help make this happen?
1. NETWORK this email to your friends, contacts and where ever else
seems appropriate

Seven years ago a handful of patients, doctors, and providers came together to stand up against federal intimidation and to chart out a plan for protecting safe access to medical cannabis. Today, we have turned that handful into thousands of committed advocates across the country. Through ASA we have built a strong, engaged movement.
As a movement we have celebrated countless victories in the realm of access and extended patient protections. As a movement we have mourned together as our brothers and sisters left us. And as a movement we have shouted and protested the sight of our friends and family being harassed, detained, persecuted and jailed.
I have been truly amazed and touched by the family that has come together to fight for safe and legal access. Over the past seven years I have had the honor of meeting many of you. I have listened to story after story about the benefits that medical cannabis has brought to you and your loved ones. I have listened to countless stories about the hardships of lack of access and police harassment. And what is truly amazing is that in each of those stories you have also shared the inspiration of your willingness to stand up for yourself and those around you.
I carry those stories with me, as does the ASA staff. Your experiences define the work we do and the manner in which we do it.
We have already accomplished so much together. Our successful lobbying, media and legal campaigns have resulted in important court precedents, new sentencing standards, and more compassionate community guidelines. Together we have rolled back public ambivalence and media bias to make medical cannabis a national issue.
Now the time has come to ramp up our work - we have an administration that is open to moving safe access forward, and now we must show our strength and share our vision. This is ASA's most important year and we need your support to move forward. Opportunity is there but we must Engage for Change! Please donate $100 today to support ASA's work this year and beyond.
Happy B-Day ASA family!
Yours truly,
Steph Sherer Executive Director Americans for Safe Access Americans for Safe Access is the nation's largest organization of patients, medical professionals, scientists and concerned citizens promoting safe and legal access to cannabis for therapeutic use and research.
