Hi Klara,

What do you think was the major factor that caused television to be invented in the first place?

Or the computer, or the cellphone, the telephone or the automobile?

Myself I believe that a major contributor to inventorr's desire to invent these thing and consumers desires to have and use them is their diets.

Do you think or believe that a more vegan leaning macrobiotic eating people could have been attracted to inventing such devices?

Personally, If all of my macrobiotic friends, in fact the whole macrobiotic community lived next door to me, or within a short walking distance of me I would have a much less attraction to computers, television, phones or cars.

Because I live far away from these people, I spend more time comunicating with them online than I  would traveling to see them!

Macrobiotic people when coming together socially can offer a lot more than tvs or movies!

When I first started macrobiotics and later when I lived in macrobiotic communities, I felt no desire to watch tv, read the newspaper or participate  in club or bar hopping like so many of my taxi clients do (in matter of fact when I'm asked where the best places to eat, go out for a drink, or similar activities, I'm at a complete loss because I don't do those kinds of things, therefore I don't know where the best places are)!

I do occasionally like to watch a movie without audience interruption and hulu or free movies online sometimes fit the bill, as well as occasionally when I come home fully stressed from washing windows, I like watching tv series like LOST, 24, Prison Break, or Life on Mars, and late at night I like watching David Letterman or Conan O'brien
but in the day time if I'm near a tv, I can watch The View or Oprah, so I not just attracted to anyone form of entertainment (why I've even enjoyed watching Charlie Rose or public television specials.

Because I'm often working in the wintertime, outside in subfreezing weather, I imagine that I eat more fat than many of the folks with indoor jobs and my guess is that often a heavier fat diet contributes to one becoming more yang and being attracted to more yin pursuits.

Also, though I do like watching particular media, I don't have the tv on usually during all my waking moments!

Your "kids" (as you call them) eat what kind of diet?

Thank you, very much.

Great life, peace and joy!

Love,

Bruce Paine

Lately I've been feeling I'm missing watching movies and shows on TV - I hear the kids laughing and wondering if I should 1) stop cooking 2) stop cleaning 3) stop laundry and 4) get off the computer so I could go join them. The last one is the one I most seriously think can be almost equated to the TV - but I justify it saying I'm connecting with real people and it isn't as passive as the TV

What I love about mb is we need to figure out what is the balance?? I agree with all the statements made in http://www.happines shopeorhype. blogspot. com/ - the blog entry titled Hide The Remote. So my question becomes is TV a necessary part of balance - can we find entertainment more worthy in a Great Life?

I realize I haven't watched the tube in a long long long time - and I also realize there are many families that live just fine without a television. And also in the past, after having sat in front of the tv for an hour or two, I often think what a waste of time that was.

Yet....I admit I miss it.

and also admit, I can't seem to sit in front of the computer as long to watch a movie on the computer - hmm, wonder why that is?

In my visit to the States, I was astounded how there was always a TV blaring in all the public places we went to - and I wondered why it was so necessary. Yes, it was mostly the news, which I also wondered why that was so necessary!!!
