WELCOME! Lighten up, people! I love fat jokes. I make them about myself all the time, because I believe it helps others become more comfortable with me, as well as lets them know my limits. I wanted to gather a group of people who are battling the discrimination and cruelty they face with humor. I want us to enjoy our fatness without shame.
I am personally tired of hearing about fat people who are in denial about their size and sue a restaurant when their butt doesn't fit in the seat, or get their boxers in a twist about a 2 year old that says,"Mommy, he's FAT!" when they walk by. This is not the kid being mean, it's the kid being honest. Lighten up, people! We're FAT!
I wanted a group of fat people, former fat people, and the people that love fat people to get together, have a good time, and make each other smile. I also wanted people who will encourage and support each other through the hard times that often come when a fat person decides to lose weight. We will not judge each other by any decisions someone makes regarding their weight. We often find ourselves the victims of ostracism by both skinny people who don't want us at the gym and fat people who feel that we have gone over to the dark side. So if one of us decides to get a bariatric surgery or start working out, others who have decided not to are going to do their best to encourage and support them, and vice-versa.
I know it's not often fun or funny to be fat. We have to deal with sideways looks from people whenever we do something offensive, such as eating, leaving the house, or (gasp) swimming. We have to maneuver around tiny bathroom stalls, between parked cars, and down grocery store aisles where the skinny people have parked their carts right in the middle. But we can still laugh at ourselves and the people who think fatness is ugly or shameful, can't we? Let's lighten up, people!
