My daughter Sarah was diagnosed with LKS in Oct 07 and was started
on Depakote. She then started Prednisone in Jan 08 and is being
weened off. Her EEG still remains active and we have a 48 hr eeg
scheduled for mid April during which time her Dr. may start a new
treatment. My concern is over the past 6 months or more she has
progressive decreased function in her hands. She was able to hold a
pencil with her Right hand and draw, but she is unable to hold
anything much with her right hand now. We now let her use her left
hand, but her function in the left hand seems to be worsening too.
Has anyone ever experienced this with your kids? She taps her right
hand alot and taps the left hand at times also. We are told this has
something to do with sensorty integration disorder, but I am
concerned about her motor skills in her hands. Anyone who has
experienced this, do you think this is related to the seizures or
the medication? Did you see an improvement once the seizures
improved? We did notice her starting to tap about 1 1/2 to 2 years
ago, but thought it was just nerves.
Any advise you can give would be appreciated. God Bless you and your
families.
Sam
