Hi Gina,
My daughter started on 75mg daily of Prednisolone (the equivalent of 4mg/per
kilo/per day) - this was slowly reduced to 50 mg after 1 month, next month
reduced to 40mg - she is now on 37.5mg twice a week...she has been on this dose
for 12 months now. Our neuro's advice was to 'hit it hard' - by starting with
high doses and tapering off to moderate doses. Taylors EEG has been clear for
12 months now and she is beginning to speak again. Her receptive language is
improving rapidly at present. On our next visit to the neuro , if her EEG is
still clear, then the plan is to begin weaning her off the steroids - however,
it will be a slow wean and may take up to 12 months to get her off of them
completely (assuming there are no set backs along the way).
I understand that in America - doctors often prescribe Prednisone - I'm not sure
how that comepares to Prednisolone in terms of strength...someone else may be
able to answer this question.
Which steriods is she on? Oral or IV? Daily or other?
Best of luck - fingers crossed for positive results

My daughter Sedona is starting Steroids today and I was wondering if anyone else
has done low dosing? She has been started at 20mg. I think that this is alot for
a start dose but he said that it is low. Any opinions would be helpful. I would
like to start her at 10 or maybe the 20 with a taper to 10.
