Think everyone is reading and posting tonight.Have a question regarding this new
annoying symptom Thomas started around July 1st and HAS NOT stopped. He is
"tweeting and hooting" continuosuly like a bird or owl whether while talking or
not. Wonder is this is somewhat ticcish or a side effect of Keppra??? HE HAS
NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE in the last 5 years!!! He has gasped for air taking big
breaths while talking and made odd grunting noises right before going to sleep
in the past but never tweeted or hooted all day.IT IS DRIVING me and my husband
CRAZY!!! I have asked him about it and he says his mouth makes him do it and he
calls it "peep breath". I keep asking him if he has any contol over it and he
says he "made it up in his brain." I asked him if his mouth was doing it or his
brain was doing and if he can control it but can't seem to get anywhere with
line of questioning. It seems like he can't control it because he does it right
in the middle of talking almost "Tourette's like" outbursts. The sound is soft
and not loud or bizarre but sounds like a sof tweet or hoot.

Has been on Keppra twice daily 500/500 since last November...no major side
effects or problems noted
Increased to 500/1000 on May 29th with improved speech noted, stopped gasping
while talking, speech clearer, longer dialog
Increased to 1000/1000 on June 12
Started getting too picky, antsy, busy on June 24 so went back down to 500/1000
on June 26th after Neuro appt as he said he could be a little "over stimulated"
from the Keppra.
Started hooting like an owl and tweeting like a bird around July 1. Good month
at increased pm dosage. My husband said we should go back to 500/500 and see
what happens...I plan to call Neuro tomorrow.I was hoping he would stop but 9
days of my little tweety bird/hoot owl and he has NOT!!

Has anybody seen this in their kids or have they seen this as side effect of
Keppra??? Not sure if this is med effect or just another odd cycle we are going
into...we have been through the gasping, breathy cycles off and on over the
years. Start and stop for no particular reason...wonder if he has replaced
gasping with his so called "peep breath".
