Hello All,

Just read a little on the brianwave suite CD's.  Have read similar research on same in past. There is lots of evidence to support music is beneficial in any type of brain abnormalities. I read the book "Awakenings" by Oliver Sacks several years ago. Very difficult but fascinating read for me. Helps to be a medical person to read it, lots of technical, medical jargon...not a pleasure read or "book for the beach". Highly recommend it for those that like this type of stuff. For laypersons they do have glossory of terms for explanations in the back. This is the "real" medical book they based the movie on that starred Robin Wiliams and Robert De Niro. Deals with folks that suffered from Viral Encephalopathy in the late 1920's early '30s and how they used L-Dopa in the late 1960's early 1970's (med used in Parkinson's) to wake them up from their catatonic states.

One of the things that really struck me was the use of music therapy and patients repsonses.

One of the quotes from the book has always stayed with me..."Every sickness is a musical problem and every cure a musical solution.(Novalis)"

LKS children are reported to be noise sensitive but have converse appreciation for music...my son sure does.

Another one of the quotes (not exact, can't find exact quote) was about how music brings organization to a chaotic, disorganized mind. Their music is "off" (disorganized thinking) and must be put back right and music helps that.

My son loves jazz, hip hop dancing and any kid of muscial instrument-guitars, drums, flutes, piano. We are seriously considering piano lessons now that he is getting older.

Just a little snippet from the peanut gallery for what it's worth. Music is free for the most part...can't hurt, no side efffects. I feel guilty knowing this and haven't done enough to support this easy approach. My extent of music is listening to the radio in the car. Some days I wonder how I am going to get to the laundry...let alone make sure Thomas has music in his life. On these days, I feel he needs clean underwear more!!!

Take care,

Sharon
