IMPORTANT: DUE TO A LARGE VOLUME OF POTENTIAL SPAMMERS ATTEMPTING TO JOIN THIS GROUP, WE ASK THAT YOU PLEASE INCLUDE JUST A LINE OR TWO OF ACTUAL MESSAGE WHEN YOU ASK TO JOIN, TO LET US KNOW YOU'RE A HUMAN BEING...NOT A ROBOT. THANK YOU.
LSR-LO is a secular support group for people who love people who are addicted. We are concerned mothers, fathers, partners, husbands, wives, children, siblings, girlfriends and boyfriends of people whose substance use is out of control.
We have one things in common: Our lives are affected by the addictions of others.
Many of us have sought support in the groups or books based on the "12 steps." We tried hard to "take what works" and leave the rest, but for some of us, that meant leaving just about everything. In 12-step support books and meetings, we heard that only a "Higher Power," a.k.a. "God as we understood Him," could "restore us to sanity." We wanted an alternative.
We needed direct support and honesty. We needed to hear other people's stories. We needed caring, encouragement, concern, and empathy. We needed to talk about a wide range of issues, not to limit our conversation to two-minute shares made up mostly of slogans. We needed to laugh. We needed to cry.
We come here to talk, openly and honestly. We share not only experience, strength, and hope, but also pain, frustration, and fear.
We do not judge or preach. We have no steps, dogma, or slogans. We focus on concrete, specific problems, and we try to help each other form strategies for overcoming or living through them.
Welcome.
