Ms. Pratt,

The normal urine mercury level, in someone not unusually exposed, is anything less than 20. Your urine mercury level was normal and wouldn’t require chelation at all. Similarly, normal urine lead levels are anything less than 50 for a single sample and less than 80 for a 24-hour specimen. Your level was lower than that. We would not have offered chelation for what are normal background levels. We have had concerns about results coming from this laboratory (which used to be called the Great Smokies Laboratory) for many years.

I would look for another answer as to why you experienced the symptoms you’ve had.

SM Levin, MD

Subject: Lead and mercury toxicity

 Dr. Levin,

I am the mother of Allison, who contacted you on my behalf.  After five years of declining health, numerous doctors, lab tests, etc., a 24 hour Comprehensive Urine Element Profile was sent to Genova Diagnostics for analysis.  The lead reading was 48.9 and the mercury 11.04.  In October I began EDTA IV's once a week and to date have had 34.  Some of the brain fog has lifted, but the fatigue and muscle weakness is debilitating.  I have read that EDTA is not a strong enough chelator to remove mercury and does more harm by redistributing it.  I have also tried talking to my doctor about this, and she admits she doesn't know.  I have seen my dentist and the amalgams were replaced by porcelain more than ten years ago. I am 68.

Any suggestions or advice would be welcomed.

Susan Pratt
