Hello,
I am so very sorry for everybody on this list - it is quite difficult
finding out information about lead poisoning and its effects on
adults but gradually more information is becoming available, thanks
to the internet.
I nearly died from chronic lead poisoning - I had a reading of 11.7 m
mol/L when I finally suffered from lead encephalopothy, went
unconscious and was admitted to hospital where they finally found out
what was wrong after 10 years of being misdiagnosed with Chronic
Fatigue Syndrome. There is quite a good article at the following
link - I get a mention at the very bottom - I just knew I would make
it into print one day lol!

I was treated with a drip containing EDTA to get the worst of the
lead out, then went onto a horrible drug called D-Penamine
(penicillamine) which is quite deadly - the side effects are
extremely toxic and I could only tolerate it for about 6 months. I
see my doctor every 6 months now to monitor how everything is going
and still have a relatively high reading. As I am sure you all know,
lead is stored in bone and as the bones thin down the lead leeches
out into the bloodstream. I currently have a reading of 1.48m mol/L
or 31 which is a new method of measurement which I don't actually
understand. If anybody can enlighten me about measurements I would
be extremely grateful.
Please be very careful with self-treatment, as I believe it can be
quite dangerous. Also in the case of an under active/over active
thyroid you need to be aware that you can tip the balance over quite
easily although I suppose, Patricia, that you only wish to find out
whether the balance is out. I don't think that you can do this
yourself but I'm afraid I don't really know.
I have been advised to keep as active as I can to keep the calcium
levels as high as possible in my body, and pass on this advice for
what it is worth.
Good luck, everybody, and God Bless,
Warmest wishes,
Jay
