Hi all :-)

I am new to this group. I have been allergic to latex for a long
time but didn't place the allergy until I was recovering from a
cesarean section after my daughter was born in 1997.
I have been sensitive to condoms for quite some time but thought it
had to do with the nonoxynol-9 that was on them. However, even when
we used the ones that have nothing on them I had awful rashes
afterwards. I had to give away a favorite pair of Birkenstocks as
the base was made of rubber not the regular cork/suede. My feet
would become soo red and itchy after wearing them for only a short
time.
Recently, after being the one to do the "cutting-in" of the new
paint job in our dining/kitchen areas, I had a severe
allergic/asthmatic reaction. I am also contributing my IBS
(irritable bowel syndrome) to my latex allergy and the types of
foods I was eating. I have cut out wheat, potato, rye, tomato, and
a few other foods and have not had an episode unless I eat the
offending food. It is almost immediate for me to react after eating
something from the list of foods that can cause IBS type reactions
in latex allergic people. I got the list from webmd.com and did an
elimination program. I basically get to eat corn and rice items as
well as cheese and meats. However, even those can sometimes be
complicated by being processed with wheat. I am making headway
though and am glad to have found these things out so I can
feel "normal" digestive wise!
Please feel free to email and chat with me!
