Re: [LANTERN] School Supplies

Hi Rox,
I just joined this list yesterday!  My youngest child (9) is anaphylactic to numerous foods since infancy, but developed severe latex allergy last year.  I found pencils from Sanford company, they are "Papermate Canadiana Pencils" with anti-smudge eraser that looks like latex, but I confirmed it twice with the company that these pencil erasers do not contain latex.  I can look up their phone # in my file if you would like it.   I purchased enough of these pencils for my son's class for the year and hopefully the school will purchase only latex free pencils in future as they asked me for the names of the latex free items.   I also purchased enough vinyl erasers for the class for the year.  Also I was able to order Platibands through Staples catalogue.  I gave one box to the teacher in case they use elastics/rubber bands this year.   They were really expensive, but excellent quality!

One thing I can't locate is latex free sports balls.  All the basketballs, soccer & volleyballs at the schoool have latex bladders inside.  If anyone has any supplier for these I would greatly appreciate knowing about them.  I called the company that provides sports balls to schools and they told me that they don't have time to look for non-latex balls.

I would love to hear how things are going at your child's school.  Regards, Rita

has any one had any luck in finding any such thing?
Also is anyone getting the support of your childs school? I live in
ontario and am just now after 5 years getting a little support, such
as changing certian things in my childs classroom and school. If you
are having simular experiences lets me know maybe we can support one
and other.
Rox
