My two year old son was recently diagnosed with type 1 latex
allergy. I am completely overwhelmed by this allergy. My son has
been very healthy with no surgeries or hospital stays. He has broken
out with hives periodically since he turned 1. Recently he had a
severe reaction. We now have a medic alert bracelet and an epi pen.
My concern is how to avoid latex products. They are in everything.
Also how much cooperation will I receive from his school when he
starts. All of the swings at the school where he will attend are
made of natural rubber, along with numerous other things. My son's
major problem so far has been from erasers. I would like any help I
can get. I don't want to go overboard but I want to do everything I
can to protect my child and help him to lead a normal life. In fact
when I received the information from the Dr. about avoiding all latex
products, I called them thinking this was just a generalization and
that it could not be for my son. I still can't believe it. I would
appreciate all the help I can get.
