I work a Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland, OR. Almost 2 years
ago we moved into a brand new building with the goal of having a "latex
safe" hospital. We have no latex gloves, no latex balloons, and almost all
of our supplies are latex-free. Last month our unit decided to go
fragrance -free. Manufacturers are starting to respond and we are seeing
more and more latex free supplies. I can't begin to tell you the relief I
have had being in this new environment. Of course many children's hospitals
have moved to latex-free as there are so many high risk children, but our
associated (parent) hospital Oregon Health Sciences University is not far
behind as all exam gloves used are latex-free and any sterile gloves that
are used are powder-free. Now......if I could only find a comfortable bra!
p.s. There are lots of nursing jobs open here.
