I take pain meds when I need them as well. My GP has upped the dosage
because she understands I get alot of pain. When she was away for a month I
saw a different doctor who had never heard of KD... I had to spell it out
for him. I ended up giving him a print out of some info on the disease and a
few sites he could look at so he'd get a better understanding. It may not
have helped me at the time but hopefully it'll help the next person who gets
KD and sees him!

Your wish is my command
Dear Dyanne,
I am so deeply sorry to hear about your brothers tragic fate. I cannot imagine what you are feeling at this time. Your brother seemed to beat the odds and live a good life regardless of the challenges he faced as a child. It's hard to make sense of why things happen the way they do. Wishing you strength and peace in the days to come.
I don't know why I am suddenly pouring this out for the whole group
to read.. but somehow the timing seems right.. Not only have I this
operation on May 14th to get thru and heal from.. I am also currently
going thru the worst imaginal emotional pain right now.. You see my
older brother was murdered on Australia day this year.. 26th of Jan
03. We only found out his true fate on 12th March 2 days before his
34th bday would have been. To make matters worse not only did he take
the life of my only brother away from me he also threw his body into
a crock infested river so we don't even has his precious body to
bury. We cant have his death certificate until the murderers supreme
court case. His preliminary hearing is April 22nd ....the main trial
I guess will take place sometime later... praying to god its not
around my surgery so I have time to recover a bit before I have to
fly up north for the trial and then my special brothers memorial.
Everyone thinks their brother or sister is special of course.. but
mine is really truly very special to me.. you see he was involved in
an accident when he was only 18mths old which left him paralysed down
one side of his body.. his left arm and left leg. he spent 8 days in
a coma and the docs said he wouldn't make it.. and if he did he would
be a vegetable.. but he did make it.. then the docs said he would
never walk or talk.. by age 3 he was indeed walking and talking.. he
endured many many operations as he grew as they tried to work on his
leg and ankle (as he grew it became like a club foot which made it
harder for him to walk) He had no mental disabilities just physical
ones.. he went to a normal school and endured constant teasing and
bullying .. he also constantly spent his life proving people wrong
about what he could and couldn't do. He grew up to drive a car, hold
down a job. Unfortunately he never met that someone special to love
him intimately like everyone dreams of.. but he always had us.. his
strong loving family. His left arm from elbow down was never really
useable .. he had a weak claw like hand.. but the things he did to
over come all this would make us all cry and wish we had his
emotional strength.
I am sorry if anyone thinks my post is not appropriate for this
group, but I felt I had to share with you all the difficult time I am
facing. my operation to me right now seems like a huge inconvenience
to me especially if it affects my ability to fly up and be with my
family during this time. This time is like some unbelievable
nightmare that keeps getting worse. My brother was 20 months older
then me and my only sibling.. and whenever things got hard for me I
would always talk to my brother.. or think of him and how much harder
things were for him.. he gave me strength and inspiration. I guess I
wanted to share him with all of you..
Dy.
Hello Karen, Thank you very much for your kindness and thoughts. I am sorry it has taken me so long to send this back to you... we had to run off last week as Jay's mum had some not so good news... tho it turns out everything is fine. And this is the first time I have sat down since we have been back to really read and write back. Again thank you for your thoughts. Hope you are doing well your self. Take good care and as I have said to the others I will do my best to post tomorrow once I get things quiet around here and have a minute to my self. Best wishes, Melodie

Hi Sparkles,
I bare with the pain as I do not take any pain killers other than the
occassional panadol.
But I do have the accasional smoke of that natural green substance
and I find it takes the edge off. My Doc's know I smoke it and dont
disaprove, after all taking long term pain killers will do damage to
your internals, and I would rather that not happen to me, as KD is
enough to go through.
To the subject of GP's not knowing enough about KD. I have taught my
GP about KD and you will find that it proberly the best way to go if
you have a good GP. If they are a good doc that cares for your health
then they should take interest.
Take care my friend and hope to hear back soon.

Hi Birgit
Would it help if i deleted all your record so you can start again,
that way i can give you back some extra work. lol. Then you can learn
more from your mistakes, lol.
Sorry to hear that you are still waiting for your MRI. And self
revascularisation would be the best way to go for all of us.
I wont do anything to database until you reply if thats ok.
take care

Hi Lois,
I do understand about relief. as for me and my scrip i only take my
meds when i have to and try to use my splint to help. sometimes the
wrist being stable is really helpful. So far i have had 2 surgeries
and my 3rd is in may. My ortho. dr. is the one who takes care of
mine since i have been under his care. and yes it seems more than
ever the dr.'s are more than ever very careful so that they do not
get ppl addicted to meds. Maybe your dr. just wants to change the
meds around so your body does not get used to one. My GP when i told
him KD did not even know what it was. And i really do not thank he
still does. I do hope all goes well for you. And hope you get some
relief.
Toni
Hi KD'ers, it's great to catch up with all the goss on the site.
Melissa, good luck and I hope your surgery goes well.
Need some advice. My Dr (GP) wants to see my about my pain relief
scripts and I get the feeling she wants to change my medication. I
don't take much but what I do take helps me to maintain control so I
don't have to have surgery (yet). I know I could change GP's but I
would much rather she understood and I think she knows very little
about KD. I don't want to come across as desperate for drugs as this
may be misinterpreted;I just like to be in control. Suggestions would
be gratefully received, as I know that you folk understand.
Take care one and all and look after those precious wrists even
though they give us grief!!!!!
