it won't hurt to get it looked at. if your lucky and they catch it in the early
stages then you have more options for surgery. I was diagnosed with KD after I
tried to fix it myself by lifting tons of weights and lots of stretching. witch
only progressed the disease really fast. so I tell everyone if your joints hurt
get them looked at. I wish I did sooner. best of luck. as for my situation I am
off to the doctor today to see about back surgery and next week to see about
knee surgery. thanks you Kelly I just heard back from dr. short, he received my
records and said he would take me on as a new patient so I will let you guys
know how I make out.

Subject: [Kienbock Disease Australia] Relapse???

Hi,
I'm a new member to this forum. I was actually diagnosed with Kienbocks
back in 1982 when I was 8 years old. I woke one morning with a sore and
swollen wrist which led my mother (a nurse) to assume I'd fallen out of bed
and had a colles fracture. Xrays showed nothing, I was referred to an ortho
who did further tests (injecting dye into my veins and watching it while my
hands were on a big machine - is this an MRI???). From that test we had a
diagnosis.

I was put in a cast for 6 weeks and told by my specialist not to play
tennis, ride horses or do anything to strain my wrist - yeah, right!! I got
on with life as only an 8 year old can, put up with a bit of pain which
gradually reduced to no pain by the time I finished school in 1991. The
specialist also refused to tell my mother and I what 'Kienbocks' meant,
saying it was better if we didn't know!

Now, thanks to the joys of the internet I can now discover what it all
means. I'm revisiting this because after many years of pain-free living I'm
just starting to notice twinges in my right wrist again. Pain when I ride
my bike, lean on my hand or put downward pressure on my wrist such as doing
floor exercises. It's possibly nothing, but the pain is familar enough for
me to do some searching on the net to see what I could find out....

The pain I'm having is not drastic, but I don't know whether I should get it
looked into early incase it is a return of KB. I'd love to hear the
opinions of others - maybe I'm just being paranoid!!
Thanks, Nicki.
