Description
Welcome to the Kienbock Disease Australia Support and Information Group.
I have formed this group to help us who have, and those who know of people with Kienbock's Disease (KD) to try and understand and discuss this disease amongst ourselves, I have Bi-lateral KD (both wrists).
There are other K D groups, but I formed this group to give us a bit more of that OZ home grown flavour. But, no matter where you are from, all are welcome to join this group. We now have over 260 members throughout over 20 Countries and growing.
Most people say "'Kienbocks!!' never heard of it". I myself call it "The Disease you never hear of, or never have heard of, until you get it".
The medical term is "Avascular Necrosis of the Lunate". Basically the blood supply to the lunate bone ceases, eventually causing the lunate bone to die. In most cases the patient is 20-40 years old and complains of wrist pain and stiffness of uncertain origin. The Xray Shown-stage II
The diagnosis of Kienbock Disease should be considered in any patient presenting wrist pain of uncertain origin, because in its early stage's the disease may be clinically indistinguishable from other causes of wrist pain.
The treatments may vary depending what stage of Kienbock's you are at and the chances of 100% recovery at this stage are slim. A MRI is the best way of detecting Kienbock's Disease. Nuclear Studies will show hot spots in your wrists. You should get as many medical opinions as you can.
Once again welcome to this group and I hope that we all can be of some assistance to each other, if not at least help let out your frustrations. Join us in discussions, all input is welcome.
Face it, no-one knows the 'pain and suffering' we go through with Kienbock Disease but ourselves.
Yours sincerely
