KidsTouchedByCF is a moderated/restricted list for children with Cystic Fibrosis or for siblings of children with Cystic Fibrosis. The list is designed for support for these kids who have a personal connection to CF. The list is not open to adults, except for adult moderators. To protect the privacy and safety of the list members, the list membership is restricted and and all members must be approved by the list moderators prior to subscription being approved. Parental permission is needed as well; after request to subscribe, the "child" will be sent a letter asking for more information about themselves (to verify that it is not a hoax, or a lurking adult with the wrong intentions, etc) and also asking that the child have their parent send an email to the list owner or moderator verifying that they are aware their child is joining the group.
All messages sent to the list will first be approved by the list moderators. This is also to protect the members; the purpose is to verify that there is no inappropriate content to posts. (this may create a lag time between the time posts are sent to the list and the time the list receives the posts).
Post subjects are not restricted to discussion related to CF, since these kids may develop friendships and may want to share other news (I got an A on my paper, etc) HOWEVER, the list moderators WILL NOT SEND POSTS to the list that contain objectionable material or inappropriate language, due to ages of the subscribers.
Children with CF or siblings of kids with CF of any age under 18 are welcome; however, the list moderators suspect that children over the age of 16 may prefer to correspond with people their own age and may prefer cystic-l or another list to this one (primarily geared to kids ages 7-15 or so, due to the restricted membership and moderated posts)
