Welcome to KECF, a moderated forum for families affected by retinoblastoma (Rb), an aggressive eye cancer affecting babies and young children. We are parents and survivors who aim to offer hope and encouragement for all who have been touched by Rb.
Three things to remember about retinoblastoma:
Rb usually develops before three years of age and is highly curable when diagnosed early and treated correctly
The most common early sign is a white pupil that can be seen in flash photos and certain types of light. White pupil in a young child should prompt an urgent referral to an ophthalmologist (eye doctor) for a dilated eye exam
More than 96% of children survive this cancer in the developed world, but 92% of affected children live in less developed countries, and global survival is less than 20%
This group is moderated by Daisy's Eye Cancer Fund (DECF), an organisation taking a global response to childhood retinoblastoma. To learn more about Rb and the work of DECF, please visit the DECF website
