I hope you don't mind if I interject here. One of the goals at SimpleChoice is
to make infusion sets that are hypoallergenic. Most people are actually
allergic to a "plasticizer" compound that is used to soften PVC polymer used in
both the soft catheters and tubing of many infusion sets. If an infusion set
company chooses to use PVC for their catheter and tubing material, they must use
the DEHP to prevent the PVC from becoming brittle. To overcome this problem,
SimpleChoice has chosen a polyethylene for our infusion set catheters and
tubing. It is rare for individuals to have allergic reactions to this preferred
polymer. The link below gives the FDA's assessment of the problems of PVC
tubing containing DEHP:

Another option for you might be our steel needle patch infusion set. People in
our clinical trials have been thrilled with this revolutionary infusion set
which will be available in a steel catheter version some time this winter. The
individual catheters are only 2.5mm in length. Please visit our web site for
more information:
http://www.mysimplechoice.com/prod-patch-detail.htm While there, you can read a
white paper written by a renowned endocrinologist/scientist about the benefits
of shallower insulin infusion: http://www.mysimplechoice.com/prod-patch-hcp.pdf
We would be happy to send you free samples of all of our infusion sets when they
become available. It might be worth trying an alternative infusion set before
you go through surgery to have one implanted.
I have heard of implantable infusion sets and I thought it was MiniMed (now
Medtronic) that was doing it the longest. It sounds like Disetronic has one now
too. Here are a couple of links you can check out: SimpleChoice has no
immediate plans on developing an implantable infusion set since there are so
many complications possible with that (as with any surgical procedure).

Please let me know if you would like to receive some free samples of our new
infusion sets. Since they have not been on the market yet, your physician may
not have heard of them yet and not known that they contain NO DEHP...which may
be what you are allergic to.

Is it possible that your skin is sensitive to the
adhesives used to secure the infusion sets not the
infusion set itself?
