As Mr. Sodden wrote, there are more individuals with Type 1 then we
know. I believe that Mr. Sodden's son is one grade ahead of my son in the
same yeshiva. It is because of his son that my son wants to pump. My wife
and I do not believe in keeping things secret. When we attended the Motzaei
Shabbos learning program, we would test my son and give his Humalog
injection at the table where we learnt. People would ask what we were doing
and we would explain. My attitude might be different as I grew up with a
sister and uncle with Type 1. Many parents in my sons class have gone out of
their way to buy him special nosh (ie sugarless cookies) when they bring in
cake or nosh for birthdays. When my son was diagnosed 2 years ago, his Rebbi
came to visit in the hospital and asked us to show him how to use the BG
monitor. The Rebbe previously had a student with Type 1 and was familiar
with the symptoms of both high and low BG.
