I have been diabetic for a LONG time (43 out of 45 years) and am very
pleased with the control the Insulin Pump provides (given enough testing and
care is given].

I started with an AutoSyringe AS*6c pump (first semi-commercially available
insulin pump) and quickly moved through then next six generations. Now on a
Paradigm [23 pumps {17 [tov] models} later].

The Paradigm (512) has a 'big brother' (712) which does the same things but
with a 3ML reservoir. I have no idea what the upgrade/swap 'laws' are at
minimed but I'm certain if Dr. says you gotta have the upgrade then someone
there will be at least willing to make some $ on the deal (I am certain they
can take you're pump in for 'repair' and send back a 712, but that would be
far too easy).

I have found the carb-counting and blood sugar recording/adjustments quite
good: at first I was VERY wary of them but at this point I'm almost not
looking at the #units it is recommending based on food & readings.

I haven't had experience with Animas or Deltec or any of the other 'newest'
pumps but understand that people who have them are happy. At this point is
a question of who's 24*7 glucose monitor comes out first and which pump(s)
will it interface with.

Minimed got the 'green light' from FDA over a year ago to release their
Guardian system & still haven't [as they want to sell more paradigms, I
guess] but should be out any day they want more $. This, of course, will
only warn on high or low readings (doesn't show current blood glucose] as
both FDA and Minimed aren't willing to bet someone's life on this device.
