Minimed vs. Animas   Message List

Hi everyboy. I am a diabetic for 19 yrs and have been on the Minimed
507C pump for about 5 or 6. It has been extrememly helpful in keeping
my sugars in check. Now that I am under insurance, I am considering
upgrading, as my pump is no longer under warranty, and the fact that
I had an ER-01 today from just changing the batteries (haven't had an
error in quite some time.) got me slighly nervous and made me more
adamant about writing the group to discuss my issue.

I saw my N.Ed. a few months ago, when Minimed was having all of their
problems with the Paridigm pumps. She showed me the animas pump
brochure, which I brought home and glanced over before putting away.

My problem is this:
When I was just out of college, had no money, and could not get a job
that offered insurance, I was helped tremendously by one of the reps
who provided me with supplies. This was for an extended period of
time. Now that the Paridigm pump has fixed most of the problems, I am
unsure of what to do. I like the ideas of putting in two AA batteries
and having not to worry about changing them for up to 2 months. The
Animas demo also had a bigger screen, and it was lighter (which
doesn't really matter to me, I'm very comfortable with my minimed
pump weight). Additionally it can hold more insulin (I think up to 2
ml, I think) which would mean a slightly easier time to not pay
attention to changing the site because of low insulin or something
like that. I don't know too much about how easy and comfortable I
would be switching, I don't really know Animas. I and the few
diabetics I know that are on pumps all have minimed ones, which also
helps if I ever happen to unkowingly run out of supplies. Plus
doesn't Minimed have the market right now? Im sure a lot more people
in the world are on Minimed pumps. I had not heard of animas until my
visit to the N.Ed. Plus, Minimed has been really supportive of me,
and I feel indebted to switch to them because of it.

So I'm really wondering if I should just flip a coin, or if there is
something I am not seeing.

Can anyone suggest what to do in a situation like this?

Thanks,
Yehudit
