What was once a relatively unknown and concentrated disease has evolved into an epidemic reaching all corners of the globe...including Israel.
While the Jewish Community has not been impacted as severely as other populations, the impact of HIV/AIDS in Israel is becoming a serious threat to the Jewish Community.
The HIV epidemic continues to challenge mankind on all levels of thought—from medical and scientific to social and cultural to economic and political. Meanwhile, Israelis and their families living with HIV, sometimes against overwhelming social and cultural stigmas, simply want to live safe, healthy lives.
There are over 5,000 people living with HIV/AIDS in Israel right now! These are only the documented numbers. Twenty-five percent, or one thousand two hundred live below the poverty line. Four percent of the total are children under the age of 18. Seventy percent of all HIV/AIDS cases are among hetersexuals; women being the significant population. The three main populations at high risk are; Ethiopian's, Russian's and MSM's ,which includs heterosexual men).
I believe that we have an opportunity to squelch the increased infection rate in Israel by providing the necessary education, prevention, and psychosocial programs to prevent the spread of this deadly disease. It is the goal of The Foundation for AIDS Israel to raise the necessary funds to do just that. Three main areas will be targeted: 1. Women, 2. Youth, and 3. Testing. All work done by The Foundation for AIDS Israel (TFAI) is done by volunteers. There are no paid staff! It is our goal to raise $100,00.00 in 2007. All proceeds raised will go directly to fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS in Israel. Join us in this fight to help curb the spread of HIV in the State of Israel.
Let us know your thoughts, comments and concerns.
cordially,
Jereme Scott
