We want to gear this newsletter
toward those who experience difficulty with colonics. Maybe you have
on come in one time or maybe you have done a series. You get very
little out, you feel discouraged or you feel psychologically
challenged.
The road to release may be long. Spontaneous, thorough and pleasurable
releases are possible. They do happen. You have to hang in, be
persistent and go for the gold.
I had a colonic yesterday. I felt nervous which I usually do. I had
intense urgency and had to get up and go to the bathroom. On return, I
released tons of gas, mucus and more stool. I see myself as a
challenging case, especially the psychological part of being nervous
before and sometimes uncomfortable during. And, I've been doing this
since 1975! Colon hydrotherapy so accurately reflects our internal
states and/or changes them. It's paradoxical.
We want to encourage you to get over the hump. You might feel some
discomfort, psychological overwhelm or why bother since you got
nothing out the first time or series. Some people choose not to return
after this. However, you are still leaving the original intestinal and
related issues unsolved. Remember, the gut is a mystery that needs to
be solved! As we get older, health issues only compound. Hard work is
worthwhile.
We encourage you to take the time now to
dedicate some energy to getting your GI tract moving, energetically,
psychologically and emotionally. You could also begin to think about
colonics the way you do about dental cleaning. It's maintenance and
prevention not emergency.
School
News
We just graduated another wonderful
student. She is an RN with 10 years experience in nutritional
counseling in a medical setting. The medical director is now adding
colon hydrotherapy as part of their overall health program!
As I grow in teaching and learning at our Intestinal Health Institute
School, I realize more about marketing and how important it is. I want
to devote a few words to it.
Who is your target market? Who are you?
Given that nearly all people could receive colon hydrotherapy except
when contraindicated, who is your population that you want to attract
and work with?
You are not only working on your target market, you are defining
yourself.
Who do you like to talk to, listen to, work with and enjoy? Who do you
feel comfortable with?
What are examples of different markets? I list a few markets I've come
up with based on my practice: students, the various decades in life
such as the 20's to 50's, families, friends, highly motivated to
change, the obese, the elderly, children, infants, prenatal, disabled,
GI colonoscopy prep, pre and post surgery, eating disordered, fasters,
cleansers, mentally ill. One could also look at zip codes near the
office and income and education level. We also have regular calls from
travelers; actors, athletes and business people.
Additional notes on eating disorders. The main eating disorders I
witness are overeating and bingeing.
As for the mentally ill, we see people with depression, anxiety, panic
attacks, bipolarity, OCD, schizophrenia and withdrawal.
Do you feel comfortable working with emotional release that some
people experience during the colonic session?
Would you feel comfortable working on an AIDS person?
Some of you will work in clinics where you are assigned your
appointments daily. You will not be involved in marketing however you
will notice that you gravitate more toward some people than others and
vice versa.
Some markets are very small such as children and infants and you might
want to combine markets to make a complete practice.
The frequency of who receives colonics follows the classic bell curve.
There are fewer infants and children, a few teens, more in the 20's to
50's and then the numbers begin tapering off. Many people think that
only the elderly receive colonics when in fact fewer of them do in
comparison with the whole age population. It's not that the elderly do
not need them. That is where education and marketing come
in.
Sometimes when you begin a practice, you will need to take every case
you can get to build up. You also get to know what markets you
prefer.
You want to harmonize as much as possible with each client for
everyone's PEACE and RELAXATION. Release happens through peace and
relaxation.
The key is to cultivate and attract who and
what you love in a practice. This is best for you and the
client.

Another time of Traveling and Pooping
concerns. I returned from Santa Fe NM on September 23, late Saturday
night. I got a call the next night from my friend, Lynn Gardner
http://www.lynngardner.com, a tour guide for Egypt and Central
America. A crisis had occurred with one of the participants on the
Egypt trip leaving September 26, Tuesday morning! Could I rally and
take her place for the 2-week adventure. I said yes and packed my
enema bag!
The trip was sensational and I encourage you to contact her about her
upcoming trip November 29 - December 8, 2006 to Guatemala and Belize
exploring ancient Mayan life, the Mayan gods, spirits and cosmology.
Lynn's focus is on the sacred and personal transformation.
I decided it was wisest to take an enema nightly. I felt better
physically and also, psychologically. The bathrooms were spacious, the
weather warm and enema taking was comfortable and easy.
On another note, my brother, Michael Shea PhD, is offering a 4-day
Abdominal Visceral Manipulation Workshop in Tucson AZ April 12-15 of
2007. I'm putting out advance notice now. All registration is through
me. I have the link for you to look at the details. The link is also
on the front page of my website. I look forward to a very exciting 4
days with him. The work is so relevant to the intestines and their
manipulation.
This past month I experienced a part of
myself that I did not want to recognize. Who is/was this person
and what is/are her purpose/her needs? Here is the short
version. Since I was a teenager, I have been committed to
leading a healthy lifestyle. Even when I did not have a quarter
of the information I do now, I made my best effort to eat healthy and
exercise.
After attending a Kundalini Yoga Retreat, I
returned and began to eat things way outside my normal diet such as
popcorn, peanut M&M's, pasta, bread, cheese crisps, enchiladas,
chips and salsa. It was fun and I didn't care, I just ate what I
wanted, when I wanted - regardless of whether I was hungry or not.
In addition to this, I didn't exercise at all. This was very
unusual for me and after a week, it became somewhat scary to
experience this foreign person.
At the time, I didn't know what was happening. Now I know that I
had swung on the pendulum from diligence to carelessness in diet and
exercise. How did that happen? I think the retreat created
a shift in my being. How did I feel with this break in my
diligent self-care? I felt frustrated with my lack of control
and lack of concern. I felt uncomfortable in my body because I
felt sluggish and bloated. When I looked in the mirror, I didn't
like what I saw. I looked at myself and said, "Who are you?
What the heck are you doing?"
How did I find my way back to center? During this two-week
stint, I didn't have control over myself or me - that's a scary place
to be. I'm not usually in that place except with chocolate,
that's a vice of mine. Now I know what people feel like when
they want to lose weight and attempt to change their lifestyle and
cannot seem to break bad habits. I was a prisoner of my mind.
What came to mind that helped me shift out of this were the words of
Anthony Robbins. He says that we do things to avoid pain and
that usually; we won't actually make a change (like give up certain
foods, or unhealthy relationships) because we associate too much pain
with the action and fail to look ahead to the positive
effects.
For example, I don't want to give up pizza
and beer because I think that NOT having the pizza and beer is going
to be more painful than the pleasure I'll experience from feeling
healthier from making healthy food choices. So then, I just keep
choosing pizza and beer, even though my stomach hurts every time I eat
it. Or, I do not want to break up with my boyfriend because I
associate 'being alone' as more painful than getting out of this
unhealthy relationship, so I just choose to stay in it.
This is what people do. They think it is going to be hell on the
other side, hence change never happens. That's why you've heard
the phrase "People don't change." I disagree.
People DO change and CAN change. The key is - IF they want to.
It's a choice.
For me, at the time, eating ice cream brought more pleasure (albeit
temporary) and the thought of leaving my ice cream behind was
painful. However, since I knew what Anthony Robbins said, I was
able to get out of my plunder by making a decision. I said,
"Okay Miss Julianne, that's enough - I'm done and I'm getting
back to my routine with more flexibility".
I share this story to remind you and myself that we are powerful human
beings with weak minds that need to be trained. We CAN make
these changes, we simply have to make a choice and then discipline
ourselves and stay committed. Commitment leads to happiness and
change.
Now, after reflecting on my behavior, I believe that after many years
of diligence my body and mind shifted to an extreme in order to break
me out of my rigid world. Experiencing myself in this way has
helped me remember that only through loving myself totally and
completely will I be able to love others and have true compassion for
them.
And remember, the normal path of change is to fall away from our
routine and then come back to it. So tonight, when I sat down to
write this section of the newsletter I ate three cookies. Right
away, my mind wants to get into judgment, and I respond by
re-committing and restating my intentions. This is what people
don't talk about! The struggle to make changes and stay the
course. It is a daily recommitment, just like relationships are
work. The relationship with our food and ourselves is one
too.
If you've given up on yourself, think
you're weak or don't have the discipline, I am here to remind you that
you DO! You can make the changes you want and both Sheila and I
support you. You just have to keep choosing what you want each
day, and when/if you choose french fries instead of a salad, then just
observe your mind, body, and soul and make a healthier choice next
time.

My Last Colonic: Being Comfortable with Discomfort
I was going to my colonic session at the
office and my typical case of pre-colonic nerves came up. Then when I
was receiving the colonic and the logjam began breaking up and about
to 'let go' I went into my typical reaction of panic. It's a deep
feeling in my gut and then in my brain of discomfort. I feel I want to
run away from it. Then I got this brilliant insight, why don't I just
get comfortable with the discomfort and go through it. I breathed and
trusted in my most excellent therapist, Julianne! Lo and behold, I was
able to release and stay on the table comfortably until the colonic
was finished. The following two days I realized I had a breakthrough.
I had relaxed my body and mind and I was eliminating better. I feel
that my shift in attitude helped me release unconscious tension or
holding patterns in my gut. Success. Now I am looking forward to
more.
One Correspondent Writes about Her Colonic Experience
A person with whom I have been exchanging email shared her
experience and then proposed an experiment. We do not have a
residential program at our Intestinal Health Institute. However, we do
have 'urban retreaters' who come in daily doing a 7-day intestinal
cleanse. We are encouraging people to create more sacred space in
their life and intestinal health through combining a colon
hydrotherapy program with yoga, raw foods, fasting, meditation and
other behaviors that bring about inner calm. You would create a daily
schedule for 7 days and then stick with it! You can consult with us
for any help creating your schedule. Now for the note:
It would be interesting to compare
the effects of a 7 day residential program with 2 sessions a day and
the effects of 14 sessions spread over one or two
months.
In the first case, the one I
experienced, the effect was magic and linked to the fact that a
fasting program was also applied in a quiet environment without the
stress of the daily life.
I was also astonished by the
emotional release taking place around the 3rd and 4th days, the
feeling of becoming lighter in all aspects.
I do believe that in the first case
there is an extra factor that enhances strongly the cleansing.

My dear friend, To-Ree-Nee, an artist and
energy worker in Tucson AZ, sent me this note about her tracking
sessions. This might be the ideal way to bring in the New Year! I did
a session with her last year to help with my extreme anxiety that
occurred after buying my house and having my left hip replaced. It
proved extremely insightful. Tracking is a process that works well in
conjunction with colon hydrotherapy in getting the energy moving and
in creating a sacred inner space. Here goes:
Tracking Sessions with To-Ree-Nee Tracking Sessions grew out of my ability to track energy via a
combination of several modalities that I've been involved with over
the last 25 years: tarot readings, channeling, psycho-drama, shamanic
astrology and creating ritual healing space. I liken it to tracking
through the woods and through thickets. Sometimes you need help
finding a clear path through the underbrush. My intention is to
use these intuitive skills to help you move past blockages, to shift
time and space to create an opening for clarity, creativity, change
and growth.
To set an appointment please call (520) 319-8316 or my cell phone
(520) 250-5590. For out of town clients, I can do Sessions over the
phone. I charge $150.00 for a 2 hour Session. Because the
holidays can be extra stressful, I am offering a special rate of
$130.00 for a 2 hour Session for the month of December. Thank you and
Bright blessings, To-Ree-Nee (trnwolf@...)
PS from Sheila. To-Ree-Nee is a great artist and muralist. She and her
partner have an outstanding gallery in Tucson. Be sure to ask her
about it if you are interested. I have 3 of her works of art!
Abdominal Visceral Manipulation Is Coming in 2007! My brother, Michael Shea PhD, is offering a 4-day Abdominal

The work is so relevant to the intestines, their manipulation and once
more, moving the inner energy.
I am covering for Julianne this month and
the topic is:
Holiday Get Away's!
You are ready, I know you are!
This fall I took a wonderful road trip from Tucson AZ to Gila Hot
Springs NM led there by my yoga teacher. From Gila, I drove to Santa
Fe to join my brother and his wife. While is Santa Fe, we drove to
Jemez Hot Springs to visit a friend. We walked his beautiful property
that is to become a healing retreat. (I'm ready now!) While is Santa
Fe NM we also received a tour of the marvelous 10,000 Waves. 10,000 is
a complete spa facility with all forms of hydrotherapy and massage as
well as lodging facilities. Formerly, I visited another hot spring in
the Silver City area, Mimbres and made numerous stops at two of the
many hot springs in Truth or Consequences, Charles and Riverbend.
I got to thinking about the relationship of hydrotherapy to colon
hydrotherapy, that's why I bring this up. Water has been used for
thousands of years for healing. Hot springs, cold plunge, sweat lodge,
sauna, steam, hot tub, ozonated Jacuzzi, hot packs, cold packs, ginger
compresses are a few forms of hydrotherapy. So is colon
hydrotherapy.
One of the major uses of hydrotherapy is to release toxins through the
skin such as chemicals, drugs and metals. One of the major protocols
for releasing drugs through the skin is sauna combined with colon
hydrotherapy. When I practiced in Miami FL, clients on drug detox
would come and receive colon hydrotherapy after their sauna session.
This includes nicotine.
You might want to gear your next vacation around hydrotherapy in some
way. You could do a tour of hot springs of your area or stay at 10,000
Waves for a long weekend. The idea would be to come home refreshed
rather than recovering from your vacation! To feel best, remember to
have a plan for 'pooping while traveling'!

I realized after my shower this morning that I experience PEACE in my
gut. I want to wish everyone peace in their gut in the New Year. What
does that mean, peace in my gut? All I can say is that it was like
"warfare" in my gut for so many years not to mention my
mind.
My first memories of the warfare were the extreme discomfort of
chronic constipation later combined with eating disorders. Others
signs were a full weighty feeling in my gut because nothing was moving
out, gas, distention, having my gut finally calm down and then pigging
out once again or eating an apple and feeling immediate gas pain. One
day at the beginning of my dietary change in New York in the mid
seventies, I remember walking down the street and thinking for the
first time, I do not have pain in my gut. That is the tip of the
iceberg.
In 1995, I read Breaking the Vicious Cycle by Elaine Gottschall which
describes the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD). I was over the eating
disorders and well along the path of healing constipation when I read
it. It all made sense and it was suggested for Inflammatory Bowel
Disease (IBD) and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). However, it covered
those pesky symptoms of gas, bloat, distention and pain. I realize
that healing the eating disorders and practicing SCD is bringing about
peace in my gut.
I developed some necessary discipline over the years of healing the
eating disorders. It's calm down there now. I do not freak out at
parties and over the holidays. That's a sense of peace. I can focus on
people. I do not have secret binges on complex carbs or fast
foods.
One factor that is of immense help is cleansing the gut with water be
it enemas or colonics. The half hour to hour session could relieve my
gas and pain very quickly.
Another sign of my inner gut peace is that
I do not feel cranky, irritable or crabby. That has lessened and I
smile much more. My body is thinner around my gut. My gut is flatter.
I do not have cravings. I do not run endless inner dialogues about how
bad I feel after a binge or overeating episode. I have immense
gratitude for the inner gut peace that has come about. I feel blessed
to experience this hard won victory of inner gut peace!
e
In another vain, as I observe new clients
come in, I wonder the best way to educate them about the colon
hydrotherapy process. At entry level, many people need 3-5
sessions close together to get the energy moving, to get the waste
moving, to stimulate the nerves and muscles to release and to get the
logjam broken. Some are disappointed on that first colonic that they
do not see a major avalanche moving.
Then there is the deeper cleansing
level. Now that you have received some colonics, the next level is
informing you that herbal oral intestinal and liver flushes are used
to accompany colon hydrotherapy. The herbs allow for a deeper cleanse
of the particular organ or organ systems. For example, people can do
5, 6, 7 or 28-day programs depending on the company and cleanse and go
deeper in cleansing doing this. You can remove deeper layers of waste
built up on the stomach, small and large intestinal walls. Then you
can clear out the liver tubules and restore the liver restorative
cells with herbs and diet accompanied by Colon
Hydrotherapy.
So, we have two levels: entry and deeper cleansing. We work with
ariseandshine.com for gut cleansing and http://www.herbdoc.com and
http://www.ener-chi.com for liver cleanses. There are many more.
During the deeper cleansing, colonics can be taken daily, every other
day, beginning, middle and end, and beginning and ending. Clients have
taken colonics in all those ways.
e
What were some clients doing in December
when many others were bogged down with overeating and other holiday
indulgences? It's a tough time of year, health-wise. One client
finished a 48-day juice fast. Another client embarked on and completed
the Arise and Shine 28-day cleanse. One client home from travels
straddled both holidays with an 8-day cleanse. Others who visited
Tucson during the holidays took advantage of the time-off and came in
for sessions. So, holidays may be used for cleansing programs to avoid
the usual dietary "warfare". "I want it. It's not good
for me. I'm already stuffed and I want more."
e
More clients are asking us how they can
prepare for a colonic. One asked - do you want me to stop eating? That
question is asked days before the appointment. I thought, hmmm, maybe
the client would like to stop eating altogether to recover from
holiday dietary shock! However, whether for constipation or in
general, the following steps are best preparation:
Fluids-3-4 quarts daily, water, herb teas or raw juices
Fruits and vegetable only
Fasting only
Rest, meditation, breathing techniques
Exercise
School
The year is off to a big start. I am involved once again in the
state license renewal project for my Colon Hydrotherapy School. We
have the great honor of being licensed as a vocational trade school by
the AZ ST Board for Private Postsecondary Education.
We are very proud of our new school. Our focus is very much on what is
happening with the colonic process and how to facilitate cleansing. It
is a proactive approach to cleansing rather than passive, like
watching the viewing tube as a spectator.
We are offering apprenticeships in 2007 for some students for up to
three weeks of practice and documentation. The prerequisite is
certification by a state licensed or I-ACT recognized school.
Classes form monthly and we are now receiving applications for March
and April.

Constipation Club Notes
Clients comment frequently how difficult it
is to maintain a good diet while traveling. Many years of eating
disorders built up my discipline and the desire to feel good not feel
bad. I got tired of 'feeling bad' physically, emotionally and mentally
from what I had eaten. Very often dietary infringements while
traveling happen when people are still tempted by fast food or use
traveling as an excuse to eat anything. Some people get off track on
the trip and keep driving down that road.
Ideas:
Have food prepared and in a cooler in vehicle or bag on plane. Take it
with you.
Choose the great salads, cut fruits, juices and nuts now in
airports.
Use traveling as an opportunity to drink more water and/or tea.
Use vacation time as an opportunity to go to a healing retreat.
On that last note, I encourage people to take their vacations to
retreats that offer raw food, fasting, colonics, yoga, hot springs and
the like. Use your vacation to recover, heal, rest and behavior
modify. For example, my friend Jill Schneider just sent me a link to
her up and coming retreats. Go for it! Please send me any links you
have to healing retreats and I will post them in my newsletters and on
my links page.

Our Intestinal Health Institute is
having a wonderful health education event this March to which you are
all invited. Dr Ken Fine will be giving a talk. Here are the
details!
Gluten-Sensitivity and
Other Inflammatory Aspects of Our Modern World:
An Introduction to
'Anti-Inflammatory Living'
By Dr. Kenneth
Fine
The presentation will
take place at the
Tucson Jewish Community
Center
3800 E River Road
(Dodge)
In the Jewish Heritage
Center
On Monday, March 19 from
6:30 to 8:30 PM
The presentation is free
and open to the public.
Dr. Fine is a board-certified internal
medicine doctor and gastroenterologist, professionally involved in
patient care, medical research, and teaching for over 18 years. The
presentation will focus on the latest science, age-old wisdom, and
common sense solutions to combat and remedy the ill-effects of gluten
and other inflammatory aspects of the modern world we live in:
intestinal disorders, chronic inflammatory and autoimmune conditions,
fibromyalgia, chemical sensitivity, chronic fatigue and
depression.
I would love to have you come to the talk and bring your friends and
family. This is a great opportunity to inspire and educate you. The
spring season is a great time to take the next step in your healing
and transformational process.
Spring and Equinox are typically times of cleansing as we let go of
the old and we nurture the new. Consider an intestinal, liver or
parasite herbal cleanse combined with dietary shift and colon
hydrotherapy. Bring in the NEW YOU!
Here are Dr Fine's websites so that you may do your research before
the lecture.
We graduated another student in February
and are looking forward to another great year of teaching and training
in Colon Hydrotherapy in 2007!
I have asked that students interested in taking our Program
please take time to read the catalog, application and enrollment forms
in detail. That is the first step.
The next step would be to read over carefully the prerequisites of the
Program. There are 60 hours of important preparation in advance of
attending the six-day intensive. Part One of the prerequisites
consists of two courses, one in Anatomy and Physiology, the other in
Business Mastery3. Part Two consists of reading two texts relating to
the overall GI system as well as the most congenial diet for the GI
tract. Part Three are the two texts that I send you. I have formulated
my own written materials that I mail you along with the Safety Manual.
The prerequisite process takes about one to two months to complete.
The written information prepares you very well for entry into the
residential component of the Program, the six-day intensive in Tucson
combining lecture and practicum.
It concerns me that some students wish to rush the entrance process
and do not fully understand the depth and seriousness of the field,
the need for a fully prepared and focused presence in the classroom
and treatment room.
The Intestinal Health Institute offers the best education possible in
Colon Hydrotherapy. I want each student to represent that excellence
in his or her practice. I encourage you to come well prepared and
focused for the six-day Program. Please write me with any concerns or
questions you may have.
Continuing
Education
My brother Michael Shea PhD is offering a
four-day Abdominal Visceral Manipulation workshop from April
12-15 in Tucson AZ. Upon graduation, each student will receive 26 CEU
hours under the NCBTMB. Check out the sites below for registration
info.
This note from Michael explains a little
more about Visceral Manipulation. If you want to register, you can
contact me by phone or email. We have a few spaces left for this
awesome seminar!
Dear Amy,
Thank you for your note. The
cost of the class in Tucson is $495. It
requires a deposit of $200 to hold
your space in class. The class is
limited to a maximum of 20 students
to ensure your learning. I learned the
work from its founder, Dr. Barral,
in France. He has written five books on
the subject. This basic class
goes over the organs of the liver, intestines
and bladder. Techniques will
be learned to help these organs move in a
normal direction. The hands on
work will involve not only palpating the
organs themselves, but feeling how
they might be restricted with the tissues
that are attached to
them.
This is really good work for massage
therapists and colon hydrotherapists or
anyone doing rehab work on the
body. We will learn not only direct, but
also indirect and gentle technique
for the intestines. This includes
learning how the organs develop and
their adult anatomy and physiology.
Plus I like to have a lot of fun and
I anticipate that this will be a really
fun class.
I look forward to meeting you.
Please call me at the number below if you
want to talk
further.
Sincerely,
Michael

Spring is still in the air in Tucson and
many of us are still involved in doing some great spring cleansings!
The most popular at the office is the Arise and Shine 7-day cleanse.
The cleanse comes in a box with all the herbs in packets, with very
clear instructions for taking and for diet. Seven days is a period of
time that most people can let go of their food and drink fixes and
focus on healing and repairing their intestinal walls. The diet is
also alkalizing and as some of you might know, disease thrives in an
acidic environment in our bodies.
I decided to do a liver flush this week. It is the 5-day with
the Dr Shultz products. It has two tinctures, a tea, two drinks and
raw food on Monday and Friday and fasting Tuesday, Wednesday and
Thursday. I am choosing to do raw food daily as I do not eat that
much. The last two liver flushes I did do the fasting and it was fine.
I even played in a tennis league the third night of the fast so if you
are worried about energy chances are you will have more when you eat
raw food and/or fast!
Why am I doing this now? I feel I need to
break some habits and that is another reason for taking on a cleanse.
It does not make any difference what the habits are. I think we all
get into patterns many of which are not helpful or healthful. Voila,
the cleanses allow us to focus on the positive and set up new habits.
The cleanses allow us to let go of some poor habits for a brief period
of time. It my case, I wanted to take a break from coffee and half and
half plus clean my liver.
I encourage you to jump in and find a cleanse you like and go for it.
We have a client doing the Dr Natura three-month program. She is
highly motivated and preparing herself to have a child.
March and April were very busy with educational events. Ken Fine MD
gave a 'fine' talk in Tucson on his work testing for celiac and
microscopic colitis. His lab in Dallas http://www.enterolab.com is cutting edge to discover gluten and other
sensitivities before they have done irreversible damage to the gut
wall. Apparently, one can go to the site and initiate testing without
a medical prescription. He commented that a majority of the public
that is relatively symptom-free is allergic to the glutinous grains,
oats, wheat, rye, oats and barley.
From my observations at the office, many clients suffer from
malabsorption, one of the symptoms of gluten sensitivity as well as
celiac disease. Malabsorption is the inability to digest and absorb
one's food. In the viewing tube, it might appear as undigested food
particles, excessive gas, foam, froth or bubbles, and steatorrhea. Dr
Fine noted many other common immune and inflammatory problems today
such as fibromyalgia, CFS, arthritis, psoriasis and ALS are
attributable to dietary allergens mainly complex carbohydrates like
the glutinous grains. We work with you on nutrition at the office when
you are interested in new insights and behavior modification.
Julianne and I encourage you to do colon cleansing along with your
herbal cleansings of the liver and intestines. Some are doing daily
colonics, others do the colonic at the beginning, middle and end of
the cleanse. Go for it and take time to change your patterns and heal
yourself. Take time to feel good physically, emotionally and
mentally!
We also changed our price structure in
April. We are offering better prices on the packages of 3, 5, 8 and 10
colonic sessions. More clients are doing more colonic sessions closer
together with dietary change and cleansing programs in a concentrated
amount of time. Check the website for the new prices.
School
Our school for colon hydrotherapy is
growing every day. The new catalog is online and some of the changes
simplify the application procedure. Students are now requested to
submit (among other documents) copies of diplomas and/or certificates
from their two most recent academic and holistic institutions. Before,
I asked for the transcripts.
We also close matriculation or ability to apply one month before the
Program date. We want to give you time to do the prerequisites and
other preparatory reading to prepare for your week at the school.
We are getting more requests from across the country from spas and
clinics that are looking for colon hydrotherapists. Hydrotherapists
are in demand so please consider putting in your application to take
advantage of this need. Many spas are adding colonics as one of their
services. Many medical offices now include colonics as part of their
protocol.
Continuing Education
My brother, Michael Shea, was in Tucson teaching a Visceral
Manipulation Workshop from April 12-15. We had 15 students from all
over the country and one from Canada. We had 5 colon therapists, 5
massage therapists and 5 craniosacral practitioners. It was a good
group and the learning was profound. Abdominal Visceral Manipulation
is one of the few teachings that have direct application for colon
therapists. Michael spent time with embryology, anatomy and physiology
of the organs and then the palpation or manipulation of the organs in
the GI cavity.
One of the key learnings for me was the nature of the relationship
between the client and practitioner. Optimally, both are healing in
the course of a session. The practitioner can go within and find her
stillpoints. We have three: one near the third ventricle of the brain,
one in the heart area and the third in the abdominal area. I learned
to identify them and it does create a peaceful situation within when I
can focus on my stillpoints and help the client to do the same. The
whole focus that Michael has, is that we need to slow our tempos down.
Breathing, going within and focusing on the stillpoints are a few
methods to slow our tempos. With a slower tempo, we evoke the
parasympathetic nervous system that allows us to relax and
release!
Michael will return next year to teach Trauma Resolutions Skills. I
will be notifying all of you when we set the schedule. I encourage you
to continue to learn in the field of colon hydrotherapy. For further
exploration and to find out about Mike's new book, you may go to his
site.

My friend, Tuesday, wrote this and sent it

benefits of behavior modification to find wisdom!
Preparing for my 10-day Internal
Cleanse!
The Facts by
Tuesday
Breakfast was coffee and cigarettes,
sometimes lunch, too. Add in a quarter cup of Half & Half by the
end of the day and a pack of cigarettes a day for 20 plus
years.
The stubborn stains on my teeth, on
my coffee pot and the stubborn pounds gathering more heavily on my
39-year old frame compelled me to rethink my daily
routine.
To begin, I stopped drinking coffee.
It felt strange at first. However, by not beginning my morning with
the 'twins,' I could wake up and be immediately productive. I was no
longer cranky, uncommunicative or sluggish. I found that I smoked far
less during the day when I was not nursing a cup of
coffee.
I had not had any coffee for about 3
weeks. I had not had any caffeine, sugar, dairy or alcohol in
preparation for a 10-day internal cleanse program. I felt very good,
very in control. One afternoon, I felt like making a pot of
coffee!
I picked up a pint of Half &
Half, unearthed the beans from the freezer and brewed up a pot. At
first, it did not taste that good but I kept drinking it. This
was my old friend, a pleasure, something I used to do all the time. It
felt good to visit, old self, old friend and I finished the pot over
the course of some hours.
I remarked to myself how powerful a
drug coffee is, as I felt it animate me and how unaware of this power
I had been when I used it every day. As ever, it replaced all
perceived need for nourishing food or water and I really was getting
so much done!
I am usually in bed by 11 PM, not a
bit of a night owl. As I rocked into the night, later and later,
vibrating with caffeine and milk sugar, I had to laugh. Who was in
control here? 2 AM, 3 AM, 4 AM. I had stayed up all night and not by
choice.
I was haggard now, seeking only to
calm my jittery body and close my eyes before the sun came up and the
birds began to sing. Sometimes, old friends just do not fit our lives
any more and must be relegated to nostalgia. Bye, bye coffee, old
chum. I will remember you fondly and if I encounter you in the future,
I will treat you with more respect.
Julianne
We had many clients visit us from out of
town this winter. Diana decided to write down her experience of weight
loss and colonics. Weight loss is a big deal and very difficult for
many people. I hope this is helpful and inspiring for some of you.
Diana is a tiger!
I am a 66-year old retired
teacher/librarian. I have been living in remote Alaska for the past 14
years. Alternative medical choices were very limited. Organic food was
not available. Potluck dinners are a major social event. So, while I
living there, I gained about 25 pounds. I became more lethargic and
continued to gain weight until I was at an all-time high--probably
about 75 pounds overweight. I had difficulty eliminating and was
getting to the point that about all I expelled were little rabbit
pellets. My ribcage and abdominal area were getting so large and I was
becoming so uncomfortable.
We left our rural town and moved to
Anchorage the last of August. I knew that my number one priority was
to get myself healthy if I was going to enjoy my retirement years. I
found a colon hydrotherapist and I started twice-a-week treatments
with her. I also started a juice fast diet on September 1, 2006. I was
pretty faithful to that for about 5 months except for three weeks in
October in which I was traveling and then became ill. During the time,
I was fasting on vegetable juice and taking supplements, I lost 55
pounds. The juice fast was for cleaning out my small intestine while I
was having the colonics twice weekly.
I also was taking biotone
treatments, which were electronic impulses into the fat parts of my
body. My therapist said that this 45-minute treatment four times per
week was like a workout in the gym. I could feel my heart rate pick
up. So, I got this exercise while lying on a table. My therapist also
did some body wraps on me, which helped shrink my fat cells.
Consequently, I lost many inches, as my cellulite was decreasing and
my intestines were cleansing. I went from size 18-20 size pants to a
size 10.
My husband and I left for warmer
climates towards the end of January, 5 months after I started my
treatment. I found a colon hydrotherapist in Tallahassee, Florida who
gave me some very good eating tips--eating according to my blood type
and learning how to combine foods.
Then we came to Tucson and we
located Sheila Shea on the Internet. My husband and I have had several
colonics treatments from her clinic. We have received many more
helpful eating tips. We are realizing that this cleansing and eating
process is a journey on which we must travel for the rest of our
lives. There will never be a time when I am completely clean and can
stop thinking about colonics and good diet.
Sheila told me yesterday that my
abdominal bulge was due to the complex carbohydrates which I have been
eating my entire life. I grew up and lived for half my life on a wheat
farm. Needless to say, the women in our family were all excellent
bread and pie bakers. Now I have come to the realization that those
days must come to an end.
I would recommend colon hydrotherapy
for anyone who would like his or her quality of life to be better. I
feel so much better than I used to. I do not get so tired during the
afternoon and evening. My energy level is much higher. I have not had
a lot of difficulty in staying away from most of the foods that I
should not be eating. Once in awhile I eat something that does not
agree with me. My body lets me know it. I am proud of myself and my
husband proudly tells people, "My wife has lot 55 pounds!" I
would much rather be wearing size 10 jeans than an
18-20.
Thanks so much to Karen in
Anchorage, Carlos in Tallahassee, Julianne and Sheila in Tucson!! You
saved my life!!

I have much to celebrate
this month and this year. It was 30 years ago in July of 1977 that I
began to practice colon hydrotherapy in Miami, Florida. This December
it will be 20 years of practice in Tucson, Arizona. I thank all of you
who have become clients and have taken such good intestinal care of
yourselves.
When I began practicing, I never saw conditions such as Chronic
Fatigue and Multiple Chemical Sensitivity. Candida was not even
mentioned. The types of conditions that I see now are much more
serious and complicated than 15 to 30 years ago. Even in the last few
years, the incidence of Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Malabsorption
Syndrome has increased extraordinarily.
Part-time Colon
Hydrotherapist Position Opening at Office
I am looking for a certified colon hydrotherapist who would like
to work 3 days at my office. The certification can be from an I-ACT
recognized, state-licensed or other international 100-hour program
school.
I have an application for the position at: http://www.sheilashea.com/ApplicationCHP.pdf
What I would like to
do with my time when I am not at the office is to Write.
I would like to update my website, the office handouts and the Colon
Hydrotherapy Manual that I give to my students. I might also have the
opportunity to teach overseas and I would like to be prepared with a
competent and compassionate therapist who can manage the office while
I am writing and/or away.
Call or email me if you have questions about the application form or
the position. 520-325-9686 or intestines@...
New Client
Profiles
Many of you ask what kind of clients comes to the office, how old
are they, and am I the only one? You express curiosity about the
practice. I thought this month I would review most of the new clients
that came in for colon hydrotherapy in the last 2 months and give you
little profiles. The study is based on approximately 54 new
clients.
First, you are not the only one nor are you alone in whatever
condition or situation you present.
What is the major age group that I see? Of the 54 clients, 9
were in their 20's, 4 in their 50's, 4 in their 60's and 1 in his
70's. So the people in their 20's were equal to those in their 50',
60's and 70's combined. Seventeen clients were in their 30's and 19 in
their 40's. So most people that came were in their 30' and 40's. Some
people think that only the elderly takes colonics. More younger people
receive colonics than the elderly.
What were some of the reasons people cited for coming in? The
majority of clients wanted to improve elimination and/or lose weight.
Many people were constipated, bloated and gaseous and felt very
uncomfortable. More recently, more people over 200 pounds and a
handful over 300 pounds are making a big effort to knock the weight
off. I applaud them and am very excited to work with them. They
inspire me. One man in his 40's was doing the Jenny Craig program and
had 3 colonics in 3 days. He did not know he could feel so well, 'lose
his shelf' as he calls it and feel lighter.
Many came in to cleanse, to detoxify, to jumpstart a healthier
lifestyle of diet and exercise, to do a liver flush, to do the Arise
and Shine 7-day Cleanse, to reduce Irritable Bowel Syndrome symptoms
of extreme gas and bloating and to make a clean start.
Each person has more than one condition. For example, one person with
constipation has Chronic Fatigue, fibromyalgia and depression. My
latest favorite book is Gut and Psychology
Syndrome
http://www.medinform.co.uk/ by Natasha Campbell-McBride MD. She is a neurologist
and nutritionist in London and writes about how many mental and
emotional conditions are caused by our complex carbohydrate
consumption as well as gluten (grain protein) and casein (milk
protein).
On the other side of the general fatigue that many feel, clients
desire greater stamina, energy and clarity. People express a desire to
get back in shape and have balance in their life.
One woman was so bound in her intestines that she could only eat one
small meal a day and with much difficulty. It took nearly 5 sessions
to allow elimination to flow more freely. She noticed a slow ability
to eat a little more.
A handful of the women in their 30's and 40's have 3 young children.
They find time in their busy schedule to receive colonics and take
care of themselves. It is their time to relax and release. Two of the
men in their 30's that weighed over 300 pounds were motivated by the
example they would set for their young children. One very fit 40-year
old wrote as his goal: "revamping general health and wellness for
self and family." I realize that family health and role modeling
for young children is a discussion and practice in many families
A small group of clients came in who are preparing to marry in the
next week or month. They come in together and work on their health
together.
Kevin Trudeau's book Natural Cures They Don't Want You to Know
About has motivated many to come in and do a series of
colonics.
Back pain often attributable to an impacted, weighted colon motivated
one person.
One person in her 50's came in because of a 'megacolon.' Many of you
have not heard of that. A megacolon is an enormously enlarged and
distended area or multiple areas of the colon. In x-rays, it can look
like a large ballooned area. The colon hydrotherapy is good for
megacolon because it exercises the muscles and allows the ballooning
to shrink down. I had another megacolon case a few years ago, a man in
his 60's with Parkinson's and multiples areas of ballooning in the
gut. We had 3 sets of x-rays taken before and during the colonic
sessions. I had a GI friend come to the office to interpret them. The
x-rays indicated that the colon hydrotherapy had reduced the megacolon
over the 2 years that he received the sessions.
Some clients did not write this as a reason to come in however I
noticed it in their Health Questionnaires: skin condition such as
eczema, psoriasis or dermatitis herpetiformis. Skin conditions may be
a sign of celiac disease, a major inflammatory bowel disease of the
digestive and absorptive surface of the small intestines. I also
noticed that too many young people have heartburn and/or reflux both
of which are inflammatory conditions of the upper GI system.
Many new clients also experienced migraines and headaches. Some had a
migraine or splitting headache while receiving their first colonic.
Some had headaches and migraines weekly.
So now, you have a little
profile of some of the new clients in the last 2 months. They are a
small snapshot of the Intestinal Health Institute colonic
world.
School
The School is going through
a renovation and it is quite exciting. Painting, flooring, lighting,
furniture and artwork are all in process. I am looking forward to
teaching and working with students in the newly renovated space.
In the meantime, I want to remind student applicants of the protocol
of registration, acceptance and payment. First, let me list the
classes remaining from August through December.
August 6 to August 11
September 17 to September 22 (Application due August 10)
October 8 to October 13 (Application due August 31)
November 5 to November 10 (Application due October 30)
December 3 to December 8 (Application due November 26)
Working backward, final payment for each Program is due 30 days before
the first day of class. If the class is August 6, then final payment
is due July 6. That means that I need the Application form and related
documents together at least a week before that so that would be around
June 30. In that week, I review your documents and have an interview
with you. I notify you of acceptance and then you are ready to sign
the Enrollment Agreement and make payment 30 days in advance of the
Program start date i.e. August 6. As you can tell, Enrollment is
closed for the August Program.
Applications are due for the September 17 Program by August 10 and the
Enrollment Agreement signing and final payment are due August 17.
Why does the Intestinal Health Institute require this 5-week lead-time
before the Program start date? The reason is that you as a new student
have prerequisites to start and many books to read to prepare for the
Program. You have two prerequisite courses and 5 books to read. That's
a brainful to handle in one month.
I request that the Application Form, the registration fee and all
requested documents be handed in, in one package. If not, it does
delay the acceptance process.
Continuing
Education
I have good news for all of us. My brother, Michael Shea PhD is
returning to Tucson AZ April 10-13, 2008 to teach a workshop entitled
Trauma Resolution Skills. It is related to his work in Biodynamic
Cranial Sacral Therapy. I am reading his newly released text
Biodynamic Cranial Sacral Therapy Volume I. It has tremendous
application for colon hydrotherapists and I encourage all of you to
read it. More details of the workshop will be provided in the future
newsletters!
I have a request from a
client. Many people suffer from COPD, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary
Disease. My mother had it. BTW, lungs are linked to large intestines
in Chinese medicine. I am asking if anyone out there has any
suggestions, herbs, books, cleansing, healing programs for the lungs.
Many are suffering and I thought I would put the word out. I will
publish the answers in the next newsletter.
Food is always a big topic with people. I had 2 dinner parties over
4th of July. I made a few new raw dishes and friends brought some raw
dishes or a complex sugar free recipe. How radical! Anyway, I thought
I would share one of the drinks. It's fun to make in the summer and
it's excellent for the liver gall bladder flush. It's called
Electrolyte Lemonade.
Electrolyte Lemonade
3 organic lemons, yellow skin removed, white pith intact
3 tablespoons oil: flax, olive, or coconut butter (I use coconut)
1 organic pear, cored (I use two pears)
1 teaspoon Celtic sea salt
6 cups distilled water
6 tablespoons raw honey, maple syrup, or liquid stevia, to taste (I
use raw honey)
Blend all ingredients well in blender. A healing and remarkably
refreshing beverage. The lemon and oil detoxify while boosting the
immune system. Citrus pectin restores absorption of fats. Add other
fruits to enhance flavor, such as peach or apple. An excellent
beverage for keeping the bowels moving.
Makes one pitcher.
This beverage plays an essential role in Jubbs 14-Day LifeFood
Nutritional Fast (Gallbladder Flush). See LifeFood Nutritional
Fasting, Chapter 10.
Taken from: LifeFood Recipe Book: Living on the Life Force by Annie
and David Jubb
Have a wonderful summer and remember, summer is a great time to
heal and cleanse using juices, raw foods, colonics, liver flushes and
intestinal herbal cleanses. It's hot and you stay cool. Contact me if
you want me to help you with colonic, dietary, fasting or cleansing
planning.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Some good info in the newsletter.
Ideas, bargains, links and more. Be in touch and enjoy the quiet of
winter and within. Love, Sheila
It's great to be in the new energy of the New Year. Welcome to
all the new energy that you are bringing forth in your life and health
in the new year. This newsletter gives you great new ideas for your GI
health and much more. Let's make it our best year ever with peace in
the GI system radiating out to our whole body and aura. Read on and
enjoy.
Winter is still here and herbalist, Jill Ruttenberg and I are
planning a luscious spring retreat at their healing retreat center and
bed & breakfast in Costa Rica. Plus some great offers, articles,
links and much more. Somewhere hidden in the newsletter is a rough
draft of my new article on gas. Your comments are welcome.
Hi CoraLyn, I forgot to mention to you that I also send the newsletter link to my group on Yahoo. "IntestinalNewsletterY" <IntestinalNewsletter@yahoogroups.com>,
that's the email I send it to. My friend who is an editor and writer suggested that I have the newsletter appear whole in the email rather than the link because people are more likely to delete it. Are you able to create an
email to the address above, the yahoo group, that when they open it they see the newsletter in it's entirety. Let me know. Thanks, Sheila

Sorry this is so late getting to you. This was written in April and now it's June. I would certainly love to have you be able to see the newsletter without clicking on it however yahoo does not make that available.
I am already in the process of writing the June/July newsletter. However, enjoy
the current masterpiece! Lots of goodies to read about. And, the Costa Rica Raw Food Retreat was awesome for all involved. We plan on doing it again.
Love and blessings to you, Sheila -- *************************************************
