I got the opportunity to use my Intra-op hypnosis CD today during some dental
surgery.
The staff were so accustomed to people having I.V. Versed and a narcotic that
they looked absolutely dumbfounded when I just got out of the chair and put on
my coat and walked out after the surgery was done.
As a Nurse Anesthetist, I am absolutely dumbfounded that there is no anesthesia
trained person there during dental surgery when a person has I.V. anesthesia on
board. You have a dentist and a dental assistant and that's it. What would
happen (and sometimes does) when somebody goes to deep. Airways can be
compromised, respirations can stop etc.
It seems so easy to use supplemental hypnosis and local anesthesia. And it is
safe!!
