Re: [InternationalHypnosisFederation] Non-suggestive medical hypnosis

Mark:
You might "TRY" to use "try" less frequently.
As to outcomes and suggestion; you will notice as you begin assisting client
to focus on the issue of concern that simply asking if there is any unconscious
limitation to success. If there is, ask if there is anything you can do right
now to shift the limitation and allow immediate success. Perhaps just shifting
perspective will be sufficient to stir the clients unconscious curiosity to
experience that success now. Or perhaps accepting that success was just a matter
of waiting until they focus their intention as they are doing when they come to
see you. It really doesn't matter which it was, as they can notice the beginning
of the changes taking place they can also notice something else that they choose
happening now as well. And when you notice that extra something special, perhaps
just a smile forming deep within, you can return to the present, in the comfort
of your own pace and keep with you that wonderful feeling.

I have seen references on the Web to successful hypnotherapy outcomes
using non-prescriptive hypnosis sessions (I assume they mean that they
just try to establish a relaxing trance state and don't offer any
post-hypnotic suggestions). I can see a theoretical framework for
this, but I was curious if anyone else had tried it or read of any
research on it. I'm contemplating doing some research with type 2
diabetes patients if I can get enough doctors to participate, and I
was going to try it with and without post-hypnotic suggestions.

Anecdotally, I had an insomnia client improve his sleep by just
telling him I would help him with it, no actual suggestions during the
trancework. And I just had a client who mentioned that he wanted to
get back into more regular yoga practice, and I may have mentioned
that I thought he was already in good shape and very limber, but
without any specific suggestions to motivate him during the hypnosis
itself, he reported making it to to yoga each of the following two
days, after having skipped going for two months.
