I have seen references on the Web to successful hypnotherapy outcomes
using non-prescriptive hypnosis sessions (I assume they mean that they
just try to establish a relaxing trance state and don't offer any
post-hypnotic suggestions). I can see a theoretical framework for
this, but I was curious if anyone else had tried it or read of any
research on it. I'm contemplating doing some research with type 2
diabetes patients if I can get enough doctors to participate, and I
was going to try it with and without post-hypnotic suggestions.
Anecdotally, I had an insomnia client improve his sleep by just
telling him I would help him with it, no actual suggestions during the
trancework. And I just had a client who mentioned that he wanted to
get back into more regular yoga practice, and I may have mentioned
that I thought he was already in good shape and very limber, but
without any specific suggestions to motivate him during the hypnosis
itself, he reported making it to to yoga each of the following two
days, after having skipped going for two months.
