Hi
In the first interview, I would ask the client what he has found helpful, and
reinforce for him or her the importance of sharing with others what he/she needs
from them. For example, if someone does not believe in herbal remedies and
wants to focus on traditional treatment, Ithat boundary and belief should be
respected. If the client's main concern is pain management, then affirmations -
even articles - on the effectiveness of hypnosis for pain management would be
received with relief, and the client's anxiety/fear may be reduced. It provides
the client with someting he/she can actively do in the fight agaqinst the
disease. Imagery may be useful if the client is visual, but music or tactile
measures may be more helpful for others. For one person I knew very well, a
faux fur (black mink) throw was very helpful - warmed him literally and appealed
to his tactile sense. Hope is priceless and important, and assurance that you
will walk this path and llisten to whatever the client
wants to express or explore is probably the best gift you can give.
Good luck and blessings to you and your friend - your support will mean a lot.

It?s funny what the universe brings to your doorway. I happen to have
a dear friend that was just diagnosed with 4th stage brain cancer and
have been racking my brain for things I can do to help her through this.
I've thought of using imagery to help her create a special, safe place
where she can work on her own healing. I figure you can have anything
and use anything that makes sense to you in this space, so anything
goes?only limited by your own imagination. I also thought I would
work with her in terms of visualizing the tumor getting smaller and the
surprise of the doctors at her miraculous and speedy recover. I
thought that as her chemo and radiation treatments begin, we could also
work on changing any pain or discomfort she may be feeling into
something more manageable and positive for her.
In addition, for my friend, I am also looking for some herbal type
remedies that may be of help to rebuild her immune system and keep her
strong.
I?m looking forward to suggestions from others.
Thank you for your timing, Michael.

Subject: [InternationalHypnosisFederation] "What if" A Client Has
Cancer!!
In today's time it seems that more and more people have been
diagnosed with Cancer. Maybe it is just our profession and that
allows us to see more of it than other people. So a client comes
into your office with your specialty Mind, Body and Spirit modality.
The client reports that they have just been diagnosed with Cancer
and that this has had a negative effect on them. Lets say that they
did not have symptoms of this prior to the visit and now they report
having pain where the cancer was reported as being. History of the
client is that they are married and lets say 52 years old. They have
went through Kemo and other treatments previously and believed that
they were getting better. They just had a physical and found out
about this. The cancer has spread throughout the body lets say
chest, shoulders (around 25% of the upper torso). They will be
getting Kemo in a week and they are looking for anything to help
them beat this. They have no traumas in their life on the discovery
session and have a great family and childhood. They are bright and
do not show any signs of anxiety or tension in the pretalk. No
abuse, happy marriage and 2 children that are grown and doing
fantastic.
According to your Mind, Body and Spirit Modality and specialty what
would you do or recommend? Lets see if we can create a total
package for the client that consists of diet, cleansing (emotional
and physical), meditation, self hypnosis (pain management - future
pacing, quality of life improvement, guided imagery, etc) and
exercise if you think it is needed.
Mystically yours,
Michael
