This is a group for young women who have Inflammatory Breast Cancer or who have had Inflammatory Breast Cancer between the ages of 20-45.
I was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer on February 3rd, 2008. I thought I had the usual plugged duct from nursing my one year old son. It didn't go away for two months. Plugged ducts don't last that long...but I didn't realize that and because I didn't have fever the receptionists at my OB office assumed I didn't have mastitis and it never crossed their mind that I might have IBC because it is so rare. They didn't worry about getting me in very quickly. In fact, I finally had to insist they get me in for care. I am thankful to the doctor who looked at my breast and told me honestly that it was probably cancer.
I have been able to connect with lots of breast cancer survivors, but none with specifically Inflammatory Breast Cancer. My hopes are that this will become a place of support, education, sharing and maybe even advocacy.
It would seem that we are few and far between, but maybe if we come together we can make a difference and more women will become aware of the symptoms and diagnosis will come earlier and lives will be saved.
