Hi, I am working on translating questionnaires about Overactive Bladder which
will be used to improve patients' experience of treatment. To make sure the
questionnaires can be understood by all, I need to show them to patients in the
UK suffering from this problem, to ask a few simple questions about the wording
of the questionnaires. It shouldn't take long - an hour or two at most - and to
show how much I appreciate your help I will give £40 to each person who I
interview. I live in the North East of England so locals would be preferred.
The whole process is completely anonymous and none of your details will be kept
on file, we're only interested in the data, to help improve treatment methods in
future.
If you're interested, please email rudutUK@... and I'll be happy to give
you more information.
Thanks so much!!

Nice work on the Forums at incont.org. I too did run a incontinence forum and site here in the UK but it folded last year partly because of illness on my part but mainly due to lack of use. Id be happy to moderate etc.. for you if you wish me to :). Am always about here at home now and dont work due to being on sick benefits following a minor stoke at the beginning of this year. So have plenty of time on my hands help out :)
Hope to hear from you soon & take care

YOUR BRINGING UP THE SUBJECT OF CLOTH DIAPERS AND PLASTIC PANTS NOT DOING ANYTHING WHILE SWIMMING OR IN SOME SORT OF WATER, BROUGHT BACK 2 FUNNY EXPERIENCES I HAD A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO!!
(1) ME AND MY WIFE MARY WERE WINDOW SHOPPING ON A VERY BUSY SIDE SIDE WALK, FULL OF PEOPLE BROWSING, AS WE WERE!!!!
I WAS WEARING A DISPOSABLE DIAPER THAT HAD A CRINKLY, LOUD PLASTIC BACKING TO IT!!!! I WORE A PAIR OF LOOSE FITTING SWEAT PANTS OVER MY DIAPER>
SOOO, AS WE WERE WALKING FROM WINDOW TO WINDOW, MY SWEATS SUDDENLY TOOK A WALK OF THEIR OWN, AND SLID ALL THE WAY DOWN TO MY KNEES....LMDO....
WELL MY MARY JUST CRACKED UP LAUGHING, AS I IMMEDIATELY TRIED PULLING MY SWEATS BACK IN PLACE. AFTER SHE RE-GAINED HER COMPOSURE, SHE ALSO HELPED ME.
THEIR WAS AN ELDERLY COUPLE WALKING BEHIND US, AND LITTLE DID WE KNOW, THEY FOLLOWED US INTO A LITTLE COFFEE SHOP, A COUPLE DOORS DOWN FROM WHERE MY SWEATS TOOK A WALK.
WE SAT AT A TABLE, SIPPING A CUP OF COFFEE, AND THE ELDERLY COUPLE SAT DOWN RIGHT ACROSS FROM US!!
THE LADY SAID I SAW WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU, AND DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT AT ALL!!!
SHE ASKED MY WIFE WHY I WAS WEARING DISPOSABLE DIAPERS,
( I WAS WEARING AN OVER NITE DEPENDS DIAPER FOR OUR OUTING ).
SHE TOLD THE LADY THAT I WAS BORN WITH A MODERATE SPINA BIFIDA, AND IN MY EARLY 30'S, I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH PROGRESSIVE MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS!!!MEDICAL
BOTH MEDICAL ISSUES, RENDERING MY BLADDER, TOTALLY USELESS!!!!
MARY FURTHER EXPLAINED THAT SHE KEEPS ME IN CLOTH DIAPERS AND PLASTIC PANTS AT HOME, AND ONLY PUTS ME IN DISPOSABLE DIAPERS WHEN WE'RE OUT AND ABOUT.
THE LADY ASKED HER WHERE SHE PURCHASED THE PAMPERS, AS SHE CALLED THEM....LMDO....
CUZ SHE TOLD MARY THAT HER HUBBY HAD PROSTATE SURGERY A FEW WEEKS EARLIER, AND HAD LEAKAGE FROM HIS BLADDER, WHICH WAS GETTING WORSE EVERY DAY!!!
SO MARY WROTE DOWN A FEW PLACES WHERE SHE COULD GET THEM FROM, AND GAVE IT TO THE LADY!!! HER HUBBY WAS QUITE EMBARRASSED TO SAY THE VERY LEAST...LMDO... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(2) ME, MARY AND A MALE FRIEND OF OUR'S WENT TO A VERY SECLUDED BEACH, AND SINCE THERE WAS NONE ELSE ON THE BEACH, MARY SUGGESTED THAT I SWIM IN NOTHING BUT MY CLOTH DIAPER AND PLASTIC PANTS, AND TANK TOP!!!
I AGREED, SINCE THEIR WAS NOONE ELSE ON THE BEACH!!! SOOO, HERE I GO SWIMMING IN THE OCEAN, JUST TOTALLY ENJOYING MYSELF!!!
LOW AND BEHOLD, I GOTTA USE THE RESTROOM FOR # 2 MY MS ALSO IS CAUSING BOWEL CONTROL SPORADICALLY!!!
I GET OUT OF THE WATER,TELL OUR FRIEND THAT I NEED TO USE THE RESTROOM,AND HE TOLD ME, I'LL WALK WITH YOU!!! BEFORE WE HEADED FOR THE RESTROOM, I WAS TRYING TO SHAKE THE EXCESS WATER FROM MY DIAPER AND PLASTIC PANTS.
I THEN PUT MY SHORTS OVER MY DIAPERS AND PLASTIC PANTS. WELL, TO MAKE A REAL LONG STORY SHORT,
WE HEADED FOR THE RESTROOM, AND MY PLASTIC PANTS STILL HAD A BUNCH OF WATER IN THEM, MAKING MY PLASTIC PANTS, STICK WAY OUT OF THE LEGS OF MY PLASTIC PANTS.
WOULDIN'T YA KNOW IT, A BUNCH OF PEOPLE STARTED WALKING TOWARDS US, AND NOTICED MY BLUE PLASTIC PANTS. SOME OF THEM, JUST LAUGHED, AND SOME WOMEN SAID HOW CUTE I LOOKED IN MY PLASTIC PANTS....LMDO....
I WAS SOOO EMBARRASSED, AND GLAD WE FINALLY REACHED THE RESTROOM. I TOOK THE PLASTIC PANTS OFF, AND JUST KEPT MY CLOTH DIAPER ON UNDER MY SHORTS. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
JUST WANTED TO SHARE MY FUNNY EXPERIENCES WITH YOU AND OUR AWESOME GROUP!!!
I APOLOGIZE FOR WRITING IN CAPS, BUT MY MS, HAS ALSO SEVERLY AFFECTED MY VISION AS WELL.
I HAVE MY FONT ON THE LARGEST SIZE IT'S CAPABLE OF, BUT I STILL HAVE HAD TROUBLE READING OR TYPING MY MESSAGES.
GARY, I WISH YOU, AND ALL OF OUR MEMBERS A PLEASANT, SAFE, BLESSED AND AWESOME SUNDAY, AND NEW WEEK!!! BIG HUGGSS FOR EVERYONE((((((BIG HUGGSS)))))) TINYTONY PS: THE REASON MY WIFE DIAPERS ME IS BECAUSE MY HANDS SHAKE WAY TO MUCH TO TRY AND PIN MY DIAPERS ON MYSELF!!!
ENJOY THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS OF SUMMER, AUTUMN STARTS THIS COMING TUESDAY!!! WINTER IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER....YUCKY....

We sell them (I am the founder of xpmedical.com). You can also get them through
KCK Medical, ABAIP or most any other online retailer who carries Abena products.
The pad will get soaked pretty quickly once you go in the water. I don't think
it is possible to design a swim diaper that would seal tight enough to stay 100%
dry while submerged under water on a moving person.
Regardless, it still buys you a lot of time prior to getting in the water,
provides bowel containment, and avoids the blow-ups that happen with disposables
in water. You could accomplish the same with cloth diaper and plastic pants (I
did it that way years ago) but the swim diaper fits trimmer, changes easier, and
hides easily under swim trunks.

In my expereince, you need to use a product that has no gel in it. I use the Abena Abri-Let booster pads inside a discovery trekking swim diaper - this combination works well for me. The Abri-Let have no gel in them so they do not blow out when saturated with water. Yet they still provide good absorbency out of the water, and the swim diaper keeps everything contained. The swim diaper also helps keep water out. I have use this combination at water parks and find I can go on a number of different rides before needing to change the pad.
The other good thing is that the pads are inexpensive and it's easy to slip the old one out and put a new one in.

Like you, my worry is that I will wet when I am out of the water and someone
will see it. For swimming I use a penile clamp and no diaper. Any medical
supply store should carry these clamps. Just wear a loose-fitting swimsuit
and the clamp won't show. If I am going to be swimming for a long while, I
loosen the clamp once I get into the water and tighten it again before I get
out. This has never failed me.

The idea of swim diapers isn't for bladder but bowel containment. Gabby's makes
swim diapers that some use as diaper covers because they are more waterproof.
But if you use a water proof cover it has to be super tight which can be painful
over time. If not, water will come in and when you get out of the water it will
look like your carrying the pool in your pants. I have used swim diapers for
years. I buy pull on and put a cloth pad inside. Everything inside gets wet but
it will contain bowel leakage. The pad will absorb some pee but then again it
will slowly pass into the water. Some good brands like Gabby's will seal tight
with only slight leaks mainly out to in. Brian
