Thanks Larry I'll talk to the euro when I see him at my appointment in March. On my last visit i was told it could take a year to cure the incontinence and he did tell me there are other things he can do to maby correct the problem. I guess I'll wait and see and decide what to do then. I suppose if i were in your position I'd go for the Advance Sling but I dont have a compelling need or reason to try some other procedures in hopes of maby being cured. I'm content and happy with the life i have.

Thanks for the response, Bill.

You made a good decision going with the surgery, as a lot of people
who have the seeds or radiation have the cancer come back in 10 or 15
years, and at that poin t it is much harder if not impossible to treat.

I encourage you to consider the AdVance Sling, my understanding is
that it is only a 20 to 30 minute procedure, and can be done with a
spinal if you do not want a general anesthetic. If you Google it you
will come up with lots of info. I also understand this is a
considerable improvement over sling procedures that were previously
available.

One reason I do want to take care of this is that I am a Naturist
(nudist). It is just not acceptable to be dripping while walking
around a nudist resort (please don't say colony, I'm not a leper!) or
a nude beach. So I'm hoping that getting the AdVance Sling will
allow me to resume participating in nudist activities.

I feel I've defeated cancer, so I don't want to take a defeatist
attitude with regard to the side effects of the surgery.

Hi everyone,

This is my first post to this group. I am a 58 year old male. I
have been incontinent since July 2007 due to surgery of prostate
cancer. The good news is I am now cancer-free, and no other
treatment is needed.

But, about five percent of the people who have this surgery (radical
prostectomy) are still incontinent one year after the surgery. Seems
while I had the good luck to have my cancer caught early, I've had
the bad luck to be among the five percent who still have problems
after a year.

In November 2008 I had a procedure whereby the urologist used a laser
device inserted in the urethra to remove scar tissue from the
surgery. This has actually left me more incontinent than I was
before, which the uro says sometimes happens with this procedure, but
it is necessary to have a clear urethra before doing other
procedures. In the meantime I am going through two heavy duty pads a
day, while taking 15 Mg of Enablex daily.

What the urologist proposes after I heal from this latest procedure
(about four months) is to install an AdVance Sling, which he says
should make me dry. I see a lot of good stuff about this on the
Internet, but then again a lot of this seems to come from the
manufacturer of this device and others with a vested interest
therein. So I'm wondering if anyone here has had any experiences,
good or bad, with the AdVance Sling, and if it works as well as
advertised?

Thanks for your help, and 73 to any ham radio operators in the group.

HI TOM,
SORRY FOR WRITING IN ALL CAPS, BUT I HAVE MS, AND IT HAS SEVERLY ATTACKED MY VISION AS WELL AS MY VISION.
HENCE, THE NEED TO WRITE IN CAPS, SO I CAN SEE WHAT I'M TYPING.

I WAS ALSO BORN WITH A MODERATE SPINA BIFIDA WHICH ALSO CAUSES MY BLADDER TO LEAK SEVERLY.
BOTH MEDICAL MALADYS MADE MY BLADDER, PRETTY MUCH USELESS, SO I'VE BEEN WEARING CLOTH DIAPERS AND PLASTIC PANTS SINCE BIRTH.
I'M 61 YEARS YOUNG AS OF THIS WRITING.

I CAN RELATE FIRST HAND TO PROBLEMS OF LEAKS, AS OVER THE YEARS OF BEING INCONTINENT, I'VE EXPERIENCED MANY LEAKS EVEN WITH WEARING PLASTIC PANTS.

I NOW HAVE MY CLOTH DIAPERS CUSTOM MADE BY A LADY I MET ON LINE LAST YEAR.
DUE TO MY HANDS SHAKING BADLY FROM MY MS, SHE MAKES ME VELCRO STYLE DIAPERS FOR DAY AND NIGHT USE.

I'M HAPPY TO REPORT THAT DUE TO THE THICKNESS I REQUESTED FOR BOTH DAY AND NIGHT DIAPERS AND THE FULL RANGE OF THE 2 INCH, INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH VELCRO SHE USES ON THE DIAPERS, I NOW HAVE THE LUXUARY OF ADJUSTING THE DIAPERS FOR A SNUG COMFY AND LEAK PROOF FIT.

SURPRISINGLY, THEY ARE VERY AFFORDABLE!!!!
SHE ALSO MAKES MY PLASTIC LINED TRAINING PANTS AND WHAT SHE AND MY WIFE CALLS DIAPER SHIRTS!!
SHE MAKES ALL OF MY CLOTHES IN SOLID COLORS AND PRINTS.

I'M BOLD ENOUGH TO WEAR PRINTS, SO EVERY TIME SHE MAKES THE DIAPERS, TRAINING PANTS AND DIAPER SHIRTS, SHE MAKES ALL OF THEM TO MATCH.
I MIGHT AD, THAT WHEN I ORDER FROM HER, I ORDER COMPLETE SETS.

AS OF THIS WRITING, I HAVE 14 COMPLETE SETS!!
MY WIFE TOLD ME A LONG TIME AGO, THAT SINCE I HAVE TO WEAR DIAPERS AND PLASTIC PANTS 24/7, I MIGHT AS WELL BE IN FASHION, AND GET AWAY FROM THE OLD GENERIC HOSPITAL WHITE DIAPERS AND PLASTIC PANTS.

IT TOOK ME A LIL GETTING USED TO WEARING THEM IN FRONT OF HER, MY MOM IN LAW,OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS AND FRIENDS.
HOWEVER, ONCE I TOOK THE PROVERBIAL PLUNGE, I BECAME COMY IN THEM.

MY WIFE'S FAMILY IS QUITE AWARE OF MY INCONTINENCE, AND THEY ALL ARE VERY UNDERSTANDING AND SUPPORTIVE!!!
THEY ALSO THINK I LOOK QUITE CUTE IN MY PRINT OUTFITS LOL.

THE ONLY TIME I WEAR DISPOSABLE DIAPERS, IS WHEN WE'RE OUT AND ABOUT.
LIKE YOU, I ALSO WEAR PLASTIC PANTS OVER MY DISPOSBLES.
AND YES, MY WIFE HAS ALSO BOUGHT ME SOME CUTE PULL ON PRINT AND COLORED PLASTIC PANTS LOL.

THAT TOOK A LOT OF GETTING USED TO LOL.

IF I READ YOUR MESSAGE RIGHT, I THINK YOU SAID YOUR STILL NOT COMFY WEARING DIAPERS AND PLASTIC PANTS????
TOM, WEARING DIAPERS AND PLASTIC PANTS 61 YEARS, HAS BROUGHT ME AND MY WIFE ADOPTING THE ATTITUDE THAT, DIAPERS AND PLASTIC PANTS ARE NOTHING MORE THEN A DIFFERENT TYPE OF UNDERWEAR!!!

IT TAKES TIME TO FULLY ACCEPT THEM, BUT ONCE YA DO, YOU WON'T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT THEM!!
IN MY CASE, I NEED THEM 24/7 IN ORDER TO EFFECTIVELY MANAGE MY INCONTINENCE, AND PREVENT NEEDLESS AND EMBARRASSING PUBLIC ACCIDENTS!!!

I DON'T OR WON'T LET MY MEDICAL MALADYS, OR THE NEED TO WEAR DIAPERS AND PLASTIC PANTS, PREVENT ME FROM ENJOYING AN ACTIVE PERSONAL AND SOCIAL LIFE.
ALL THESE THINGS HAVE TO WORK AROUND ME, AND NOT ME, AROUND THEM!!!

THERE NOTHING MORE THEN INCONVENIENT NUSCIANCES!!!!
WHEN LIFE HANDS YA A LEMON, MAKE LEMONADE!!!

OK MY FRIEND, I THINK I BORED YOU AND OUR GREAT GROUP LONG ENOUGH.
I APOLOGIZE FOR THIS LONG POST.
I WISH YOU AND THE GROUP A HAPPY AND AWESOME DAY!!!!
HUGGSS((((((HUGGSS))))))

I hate when I leak especially since I try so hard to be protected. It
seems leaks happen and I really don't understand why. I don't overload

To Richard and anyone else

My name Robert and I live in Salt Lake City Utah USA. I am incontient to but only with the bowels, I also wet the bed every once in a while.
I realized a couple of years ago I needed to wear Diaper/Nappies because of my problem and not to have a noticable accident. Yes I feared people noticing that I wear but my soon to be ex-wife convinsed me to start wearing a brand called members mark. They are sold at Sams Club. Which if people dont know is affiliated with Walmart. You can order these at www.samsclub.com and go to diapers or baby diapers, one of the 2. You might have to look around to find them. They are real quiet they make some noise but are really quiet compared to other diapers. They have the cloth like cover with velcro tabs and they absorb really good. The only time they have leaked on me was when I was laying on my back, Also if you put the diaper on to Tight tthe tabs will come un done easily. Some advice from me to avoid people noticeing especially out in public is once you have gone in your diaper. Especially a bowel movement You need to be changed imedialty to avoid the bad smell.

I hope my advice can help you. Feel free to e-mail this is for anyone. My e-mail is vandenbobs@...

Thanks a bunch
Robert

Before that I did have to wear on and off during the day and pretty
much all the time at night for an Overactive Bladder I was diagnosed
with having at 13. Back then I wasnt sure what was happening. Went
from being dry to having to rush for the toilet or not making it at
all and 9 times out of 10 woke up each morning to a wet bed. Being 13
and in boarding school it was so embarrassing and frustrating having
these probs so was glad when I was shown nappies as a way of dealing
with the problem although back then I hated having to wear them when I
did.

That overcome I came to terms with wearing them until after the stroke
in 2005 when I lost total control of both front and back ends and had
to go in them 24/7 !. It was like climbing the emotional ladder of
getting used to it all again to me and even now 4 years on I still get
paranoid about others noticing when Im out that Im wearing a nappy or
it showing. If I end up dirty I usually just want to run straight home
without stopping if out.

I think for anyone in my stiuation they will understand what I mean
with it and for anyone suffering with any type of incontinence its a
problem and a problem I wouldnt want to wish on anyone,

So Im glad somebody came up with this great idea for a group so we can
all get together, share experiences, hints and tips etc... about how
we can all help and happily live and come to terms with having or
being incontinent :).

I hope to chat to some of you soon and if anyone has a brainwave of
how I might be able to overcome my fears when out and wearing
mentioned above please feel free to drop me a line :)

All my best wishes to all :)
Richard S

the really funny thing is that i have never had such a strong case of urge incontinence before. usually i might have some dribbling untill i can get to the bathroom but never have i flooded like this. and the fact that my wife is not simpathetic to my having a problem doesnt help. she would have totally killed me if she found out what had happend, her take would be that i need psychiatric help . jerry

Exactly, find the most absorbent protection you can, use a booster if
you need too, try to keep your skin as dry as possible. I use pm or
all night diapers as they are more absorbent than daytime. Since you
are seated all the time, one needs to keep the wetness away from your
skin and as contained as possible since you probably don't get changed
as often as you want to.

Hi Jim,

I get my nappies with the 7 tear drops fron the continence service which you can make enquiries at your local hospital.

Here in the UK I have my nappies sent to my home address delivered free.

Also use a good barrier cream called cavilon.

Hope the above is of help.

regards,

Christopher.

Hi Jeff,
Greetings from the UK. My mame is Christopher, I am also a wheelchair user as I am disabled from birth. I also use adult all in one adult nappies. I will point out a few points that I have found out when useing them.
1. Go for the most absorbant all in one nappy with the most number of tear drops on it (I use Contifit Plus which has 7 tear drops.
2. Make sure you get a tight fit around the body otherwise you will get a few leaks.
3. You can put 2 nappies on with plastic pants over the 2 nappies.
I have 2 nappies put on me with plastic pants and I can go a whole day without a change.
My nappies are put on me while I am in a sitting position.
Hope the above is of help.
Regards,
Christopher.

Apparently, he likes his latex pants!  They work for him and they keep him dry.

Literal translation from Babelfish:
"use rubber trousers or latex trousers is but comfortable and safe of which they were used formerly it even drinks them they make them and they are excellent in the protection of the humidity"
