Subject: Disappointing change in Sam's Club adult incontinence briefs.

I was very disappointed to learn that Sam's Club (here in the US) just
changed their house brand adult diapers (Member's Mark) from a plastic
to a cloth cover. Before this change, I had been enjoying the benefits
of a decent, middle-duty disposable brief that was very economical (64
count for $19.98!). The recent product change is very disappointing.
The cloth-covered replacement model DOES NOT perform nearly as well as
the plastic backed diaper did and it's virtually worthless when I'm
sleeping on my side, as I do most of the night. If anyone else out
there was also disappointed in this change, I urge you to write to
Customer Service at Sam's Club/Member's Mark and request they go back
to the previous model. I won't be purchasing these anymore unless they
do. Meanwhile, can anyone suggest a moderately priced adult diaper
that's good for what I call "middle-duty" (re: when around the house
and/or able to change periodically through the day). Assistance will
be greatly appreciated! Thanks! pj

i think plastic back disposable diapers are better than cloth disposable wons.

If you are taking other drugs.....(I was, trileptal and klonipin for epilepsy, both at top levels for me) then they will potentiate the efficacy of the topamax, meaning, they will make it work better, meaning, they will make it dope you more.....that is just the way things work (thats why they put a warning that alcohol will intensify the effect of these drugs....)

Topamax does have ONE GOOD SIDE effect in that it can make you lose weight usually, so ifyou need  that, it helps.  IN my case, I didn't....and in fact they were going to have to watch for weight loss carefully and take me down then off if it made me lose.

Anyway, I do not remember the max I was on, I do recall it was well over 200 mgs....and that I started at 25 mg and went up to 50 and so on.....I think I started sleeping alot more around 100 mg....  BUT remember, in MY CASE they were trying to reach a Therapeutic level for seizures as well as the headaches....b/c I have to have THREE seizures meds.....and they were going to sub it in for depakote which was making me puke.  Plus they hoped it would reduce the migraines which I still swear are caused by the trileptal. (but we already know from a seizure study they did with me in an induced coma that I WILL have seizures if they take me off trileptal, plus I went off it when pregnant and on safer drugs and had seizures during pregnancy)....  SO  my point is they had to reach a therapeutic dose for seizures which is MUCH higher usually than for headaches (I was told some people get the headache relief at 50 mg but you must be strict and not take anything for a headache for over a month to make sure, bc you will get rebound headaches if you do and then you won't know if it is working...that is the only true way to know if a prevention med is working, you can't even take tylenol for a headache...nothing....or you'll get rebound migraines....)

Therapeutic dose for seizures is also much higher than for psych use.....

For example, on all three of my seizure meds, they keep me just under toxic......not toxic, but not in the  middle either, if you gave it a percentage it would be 90 percent I guess.  EACH person has their own reaction to meds and their drug levels will be different...plus weight factors in as well as metabolism, how long you have been on such meds, etc.....so every one is so different the mg's wouldn't matter....just the therapeutic level.  I started sleeping all the time when topamax was in the mid zone....perfect for psych use and most people's seizures use, they just have to keep me high to prevent my seizures for some reason.  So I never reached the hihger zone...they started tapering me off at that point b/c I was losing my hair and other side effects......besides the fact I was literally sleeping all the time and my husband was having a hard time just getting me to wake up to eat.

Hope this helps.
Jen

I would agree. The cloth covered types tend to "weep"
when they get near capacity, leaving your pants a
little bit damp. Also will chafe your skin once they
get that way. They are great for being discreet, but
not so good if you plan on wearing them a long time
where they will get used a lot.

I really took the time to spell "Topamax" carefully and just don't know how it printed out like that.
How high did you go on the Topamax dose that you zombied  ?
There's a ton of information about Topamax on the cluster HA site.
I already take so many pillz, you wouldn't believe and didn't start more crap she added and today is the appointment when I'll have to either lie and say I started the new upped dose and new pill or tell the truth - I was afraid to take more crap at this time.  I told her a while back that it would take time before I'd be ready to start a new course and that the shrink before her understood and that I hoped she would.  I look everything up in PDR and call drug manufactorer, etc before I start a new pill.
I wonder if any of these "other" pillz are contributing to my leaks and floodz ...  I think dark coloured urine is a result of too much or different medication ?
(not spell checking ... ) .
ron88jen@... lol, I wondered if you'd catch the tampax/topamax substitution, lol.
keep in mind, half the docs call topamax dopamax....for a reason too....zombie kingdom for me (though bc it was also a seizure med I had to take high doses)   Jen

The reason you probably think they resemble Huggies is
because they use the same backsheet material for the
"Adjustable Underwear" as they do for the Huggies baby
diapers. If you look closely you will see the same
star pattern on both.

BTW if you are looking for an adult sized diaper that
is very close to the baby diapers of the 90s check out
Bambino:
http://www.bambinodiapers.com/

I had the opportunity to try some and they are very
well made. Similar to the Secure Care X-Plus, but with
a front elastic and printed taping panel. They are
pretty pricey though. If you don't want prints you can
get the same protection from a Secure Care X-Plus for
about 80 cents cheaper per diaper.

Pampers parent company Proctor & Gamble used to make
Attends, but sold it to Paperpak like 5-6 years ago.

Huggies parent company Kimberly Clark is probably the
biggest producer of adult incon products in the USA.
Their most popular brands being Depend and Poise.

They aren't going to market them under the Huggies
brand as most incon folks don't want their adult
absorbent garments associated with baby diapers.

You'd think with roughly 25 million incontinent people in the USA Pampers, Huggies would bring out decent low cost adult diapers.

Pampers/Luvs is owned and made by Proctor and Gamble. P&G used to own Attends, before they sold it to PaperPak. They got out of the adult diaper business due to sagging profits and a loss in competition to Depends.

Huggies is owned and made by Kimberly Clark. KC owns and makes Depends and Poise. Depends is currently the number-one brand of adult diapers used in the US, outside of an institutional setting. (Here in Canada, the numbers are somewhat skewed as other competitors, like SCA Tena, have made significant inroads into the adult diaper market.)

25 million incontinent people is financially small compared to babies and baby diapers. There are far more diaper-wearing children in the US than there are incontinent adults. Remember that it's all about money. Unless diaper companies see a significant profit on their investment, they won't put in the effort to making anything worthwhile for us to use.

This is why the niche market manufacturers, like Hartmann (makers of Molicare), Tena and Abriform have done so well since they narrow focus on a specific market.

Wanting and wishing that baby diaper manufacturers suddenly retool for adult diapers is purely a fantasy. Provide hard-core, objective financial feasibility studies to the marketing managers at said companies and they MAY listen to you.

It's no crime - it's capitalism, and that's life.

Actually, Kimberely Clark makes both Huggies and Depend. Not that
you could tell from most Depend products. Though I have been using
Depend adjustable underwear style during the day - not bad. It
struck me seeing one sitting on my dining room table that they
resemble a giant "Huggie" and are quite thin (Ultratrim??)

At any rate I'm beginning to think that you'd hear plenty of
complaints about baby diapers if babies could type and had a Yahoo!
group where they discussed the relative merits of Huggies vs.
Pampers or Luvs.

You'd think with roughly 25 million incontinent people in the USA Pampers, Huggies would bring out decent low cost adult diapers.

There was a recent water drinking contest where one of the contestants died from this too much water aspect you brought up.  I have the article if anyone wants it forwarded or maybe the link to the news article if it is still working.
Sometimes I drink so much water, I feel like there is something wrong with me.  And the other problem is,  I read you should drink a full glass of water for each pill you take.  I'd need a lake and something for all the flooding if I drank all that.  Would be beyond leaking.  Beyond diapering.
michael@... Note that you shouldn't drink more than a quart an hour or so, as there is such a thing as water toxicity. Look it up in Wikipedia for the exact amount our body can process. You have to drink a huge amount to experience the problem, but it can happen, especially in runners.

i had an excellent doctor at the time who prescribed them (separately .. ) . (difficult to believe I had a great doctor, I know ... ).
He travels all over the world to conferences and conventions (phoned me once from Denmark... ) ... (I am STILL in USA ....  ) .   He is always on top of any (new) drug and after more research, he had reports that Tampax was harmful and took me off.   There's a lot of research and comments on Tampax on the cluster HA website.
I had taken Depot for a long time for another problem and dang, not only was I goofy but I couldn't remember the simplest thing like where my therapist's office was.  I had been there ten million timez ...
From those two drugs, I went to Lamital, which I have been on maybe seven years but not for seisures or for the dang HA.
All these dang potisions have so many side effects, it's difficult to decide whether the sides are worse than the condition they are treating.

And contrary to what you might think, disposable diapers will actually hold more when you've been drinking higher amounts of water. The holding capacity of the super absorbent polymer (SAP) used in diapers is significantly reduced when salts are present. Salt is present in our urine, but the more water we drink, the more dilute it will be.

Note that you shouldn't drink more than a quart an hour or so, as there is such a thing as water toxicity. Look it up in Wikipedia for the exact amount our body can process. You have to drink a huge amount to experience the problem, but it can happen, especially in runners.

Perhaps this has already been suggested but with our concern with incontinence is there not some reluctance to drink less water and as a result we are experiencing some dehydration and resulting in migraines/headaches.   My doctor suggested setting aside in a container the amount per day I need, approx. 8 glasses of water, and during the day actually drinking that amount not just guessing.  In addition, I also set a container of water at bedside.  As a result the migraines/headaches I was experiencing disappeared.  My 2cents.

Glad you brought this up.  Been giving it a lot of thought.
When my cluster HA started, I was emailing an offline friend who was also struggling w bad head aches.  She said that the chiropractor was doing adjustments that relieved the head aches.  That makes sense to me.
While not handicapped by it, I do have a few back problems, including a few birth defects like scoliosis and something near the coccus and a narrow canal under the spine that I can't think of the medical term for now.
These have prolly moved or affected my other organs.  A scan showed a bit of spine pressing on my tummy.  No treatment was recommended and I don't seem to have any real serious problems from that, including how I look.  And leg problems from the spine problems slow me to get to bathroom.
I'm suggesting that possibly some of us do have back problems that effect both our head aches and Incont that may response to medical adjusting and massage.  brwmeistr <brwmeistr9@...

My migraines normally waken me about 4AM, without any known aura, but with the full-blown pain, nausea, photo-and phonophobias. Normally I take Amerge and go back to bed,
with good relief within an hour or so, but occasionally even when the pain is gone I'll continue to have the nausea and photophobia, so I have to stay home and in a dark room.
Fortunately, I've not had one for many months now.

I was given Depakote for my migraines and it seemed to make my bedwetting way worse.  I also had Topamax and it did no good. Except for making all my friends want my meds. Turns out that Topamax is something that lots of people try to get prescribed because a side effect is weight loss.

that is b/c that is the second line of defense for prevention of migraines.

the first line is seizures meds such as topamax and depakote mainly.

as far as the third line, its real low dose pamelor or elavil neither of which work very well....

I tried topamax, since I also have epilepsy I would be able to use it as second drug....well they don't call it "dopamax" without a reason.....I was drugged even on the small dose...by the time I was at therapeutic level I was a zombie and my hair was coming out but taht was just me, it works for some people and also you lose weight on it which is good for some, bad for others...depakote causes yu to gain weight but caused me to puke...

I can't take high blood pressure meds, my blood pressure runs 70/50 ish in the doc office...and lower at night, it'd kill me.  The doc said that if I went into ER I'd be admitted, of course, now I know why I always was stuck in icu, hmmmmmmm (on dopamine every time), they want that bottom number over sixty.

so i finally gave up on the prevention drugs and stuck with migrin-a which was working in the first place so I have no idea why they spent two years screwing w/my meds to try to find a prevention med.....
