Changing more frequently is an important aspect of this
certainly.
Also consider laying without a diaper for a half hour to an
hour, perhaps with a simply Chux-type underpad on your bed,
to let the rash area dry and air a couple times a day. This
is much the same one would do for a baby's diaper rash.
However, I've never had much success with regular baby diaper
rash ointments, so I use a 1% cortisone ointment on the
affected area for a few days to clear it up. Medical studies
show that such surface (topical) applications of steroids
DON'T have any general effects on the rest of the body, so
that's not a worry. I have excellent success with generic
Wal-mart/K-Mart ointments at about 1/2 the cost of brand name
ones.
Hope this helps a bit.
