NIH-funded post-doctoral position (up to 4 years) is available to study the immunopathological mechanisms of meningeal and cortical inflammation, and cortical demyelination in early MS. We propose novel hypotheses about the role(s) of meningeal inflammation and cortical pathology in the MS disease process. Pathological characterization of human tissue provides a unique opportunity to directly test the pathogenic relevance of emerging experimental animal data to MS pathology. Our studies addressing novel elements of MS pathogenesis potentially allow the identification of new therapeutic targets. Our experimental approach involves detailed pathological analyses of human biopsy and autopsy material, and relies heavily on immunocytochemistry, in situ hybridization, and light and confocal microscopy. Applicants must 1) have an M.D. and/or Ph.D; and 2) a keen interest in clinical-pathological correlative research. Creative and highly motivated applicants are

An acquaintance of mine (has
his own ICU in Iran) is currently visiting different ICU's in US (SUNY, Johns Hopkins, Washington, Mayo ...) after having toured Europe.
While he is in Rochester, he would very much appreciate it to visit additional ICU's as he is
especially interested in trauma care. I wondered whether he could see your experimental set ups as well as visit the dispatching and the clinical ICU settings.

We have a well developed fellow level didactic program with special emphasis on intra-operative echocardiography and advanced topics in cardiac anesthesia and critical care.
The Henry Ford Hospital Cardiothoracic Surgery Division performs approximately five hundred open heart surgeries a year, including heart and lung transplantation, adult congenital surgery, ventricular assist device
placement, thoracic aortic procedures with and without circulatory arrest, as well as the full gamut of valve and coronary revascularization procedures. In addition they perform approximately 250 non-cardiac thoracic procedures annually.
Our fellows receive extensive training in intra-operative echocardiography from our experienced staff of cardiothoracic anesthesiologists. All fellows are expected to perform and observe the requisite 300 TEE exams necessary for National Board of Echocardiography certification by the completion of training.

One postdocs position is open for a newly established laboratory. We are interested in the molecular mechanism underlying cell adhesion and migration, and how these would relate to embryogenesis, wound healing, and human diseases such as cancer metastasis. Our current major focus is to investigate how type I phosphatidylinositol phosphate kinases (PIPKIs), which generate phosphatidylinositol-4,5-bisphosphate, regulate cell adhesion and migration, and participates in the relevant life events. Multidisciplinary approaches including molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, and genetics are used to address our research objectives. The postdoctoral fellow will join several ongoing projects to define the roles of PIPKIs in cancer metastasis, angiogenesis, and wound healing.
Ph.D. degree in cell biology or biochemistry is required. Candidates with experience of knockout or transgenic mouse will be preferred.

Dear Dr. Ghandchi – IAMA Central:
On behalf of the Massachusetts chapter I would like to introduce to you Dr.
Roksana Sasanfar who has approached us to help her in any way we can as per the
guidelines and bylaws of IAMA in assisting fellow Iranian Healthcare providers.
Dr. Roksana Sasanfar is a Post-doctoral Fellow at the Center for Human Genetic
Research affiliated with Harvard Medical School. After graduating from medical
school in Tehran in 1998, she pursued her research interest in genetic deafness
in Iran followed by identifying the genetic risk factors for autism in the
Iranian population.
With the help of Dr. Susan L. Santangelo at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Sasanfar
has collected, stored and transferred DNA samples from the autistic Iranian
population and transferred them to the U.S.A. for proper, sophisticated analysis
at the Massachusetts General Hospital.
The above research project on Iranian autistic children’s DNA samples has been
funded by the National Institute of Mental Health up to now. Since Dr. Sasanfar
is not a permanent resident of the U.S. she does not qualify for federal grants.
The existing funds fore her project have ran out and there is an Immediate need
to raise $50,000.00 to continue the project, establish a more permanent
employment status for her at the M.G.H. and ultimately enrolling her in the
faculty appointment process.
Dr. Sasanfar has agreed to return this fund to IAMA Central in a timely manner
once she has established herself in the U.S.A to be used exclusively for the Bam
Hospital project.
It is up to the Iranian medical community to step up to the plate and put into
action the talks about supporting each other for the ultimate common good.
Please make your tax deductible contribution to “IAMA – Sasanfar Project”.
Due to time limitations donations of $1000.00-$5000.00 are recommended.
Please mail your donation by July 15th , 2008 to:
